York Book Fair PBFA Bookfair
Tomorrow sees sees the start of the January York Book Fair, an event once regularly attended by Goldeneye.
Obviously, we never stood as exhibitors, merely a visitor. As I recall, the September bookfair was always the best though it gradually went down hill right up to the point of not even being able to buy a book.
The last visit was memorable because I bought more in the York charity shops than I did at the actual Barbican Centre where the event is held !
I used to go to bookfairs all the time, sometimes every week some months depending on availability. It must be years since I last visited one.
Sad, but a sign of the times and indicative of the decline in traditional bookselling and venues.
I believe the dealers will be setting up tonight, which is when the real business will be done, all the bargains will be gone before the doors open to the punters.
I hope all those attending have a decent time of it and that it’s worthwhile.
I did think about going, just for a day trip to York really, but it’s a bit far Up North for a southern boy like me

I bet there are a few people looking forward to this one ?
Head in there Hands though in a couple of days time .
I agree with you , Bookfair’s
are-may be a thing of the past .. just loads of the same old stock.
I mean if it was any good,
It would have been sold way before the Bookfair ! Surely !

absolutely, they are only being held up, such as they are, by an older generation of sellers and buyers.
How many of the sellers at a PBFA bookfair actually rely on book sales to live?
I am sure most will bookfairs will die out in the next few years

” York Book Fair ”
Any news on this event - Did they all Eat ?
Although I suppose the usual Tea and Cakes were handed out to the needy, supplied courtesy of the more wealthy bookdealer-bookdealers.

no reports here, unusual to hear nothing.
Maybe all the dealers that attended are sunning themselves in Barbados, perhaps we’ll hear more when they return
