Will My Car Radio Work When We Go Digital

Quite some time ago on this site, during a discussion about Digital TV Channels and Freeview etc, I asked a question that came to me.
With the digital switch over meaning that the Government will switch off analogue broadcasting in 5 years - what will happen to car radios ?
Will Car Radios Still Work When We Go Digital ?

The short answer is no they will not !
This is no biggie for those with older cars, it’ll just cost you a new radio but what about those that are now built into the dashboard of the car or integrated with other systems ?

They too will stop working but cannot simply be taken out and replaced in half an hour.

The original idea was to beat crime by making the radios impossible to remove by a would be thief and, in fairness, it worked a treat.
What was once a massively common crime became a thing of the past for modern car owners

It’s also worth mentioning that the likes of Ford, Fiat , Volkswagen, Peugeot , Vauxhall and Renault are still selling brand new cars today with analogue radios fitted !
That’s plainly a disgrace - they know full well that they are fitting equipment that will cease to function well within the car’s normal lifespan.

We are where we are with those manufactured before the digital changeover came onto the horizon - there’s nothing we can do about it.
I mention it because I just wonder how many people have thought about it.
They know about their TV but what about their car.

I wonder how my people will be goosed and unable to do anything or if there is anything that can be done - how much will it cost ?
A small fortune I imagine !

For the record, your host has no radio in his jalopy so once again I emerge from the mire smelling of roses :)
Once again nothing ever seems to apply to me !

I was going to link back to this post because the papers have been carrying the story this week - a year after it occurred to me !
They were all on about the cost but I saw no mention of those people who have radios built into the dashboard as an integral part of the car.

Nor mention of the scandal that saw manufacturers still putting analogue radios uin cars a year ago !
