Will it Be Hot this Summer in Britain ?
Will the summer of 2010 be a hot one here in the UK or will it be the usual English washout - again ?
All this and more in the winners and losers round up - back by popular demand !
Yes my long-suffering readers it’s ‘this thing’ again everybody emails me to say they like them - so here’s another round up of the things which, in my opinion (therefore correct
), are on the up and those one the way out
Sun Drenched
Photography
I’m expanding my photographic horizons in new areas, something which is extremely satisfying is already yielding initial results far in excess of my initial expectations
The Art of War by Sun Tzu
This book should be compulsory reading - certainly should be on the reading list of anybody who wants to get anywhere in the world
The British Summer to Be ?
Some guru is predicting the hottest summer for 21 years - I’ll believe it when I see it
Dr Grigory Perelman
Russian mathematics genius who solved a century old mathematical problem, The Poincare Conjecture, turns down a $1 million prize.
He lives in an appalling flat but is not interested in money or fame - fair enough, nice to hear of somebody who cannot be corrupted by the ‘filthy lucre’
Joan Collins
Still looking glamorous she bemoans the loss of real men ! What happened to them she said.
Take 10 woman points Joan for pointing out that the tidal wave of weakness now endemic in young men will be the ruination of us
Washed Out
Russian Roulette
This was amusing, a wedding guest decided to play Russian Roulette, I saw the headline then saw the picture before reading it.
My first thought was . . . that is not a revolver - that’s an automatic pistol . . .
Still the Gene Pool needs a little chlorine
Syphilis - It’s Catching You Know
Falling nicely into our category Old Diseases Making a Comeback it seems the French Disease is back.
Not only is it back but it’s all the fault of Facebook. A public health director has identified a direct link between people diagnosed with the disease and the people they met on Facebook - so there you go - Facebook leads to Syphilis - a salutary warning if ever there was one
The Budget
Am I worse off or better off ?
Naturally the former seems more likely than the latter - but the real point is I simply don’t care - I don’t even know what the Chancellor said
The Future
It’s increasingly difficult to look at the future faced by the under 30s with anything other than gloom. It won’t affect me I should be able to carry on as I am and I’ve no children so quite why I should care I don’t know - but I do - and I don’t like what I see
If you’ve anything you’d like to get off your chest or any opinions on what I’ve written then please feel free to leave a comment - all input more than welcome
All the best
Rod

Chris,
let’s hope you’re right - something a bit sooner would be nicer - weather is what’s required as I feel there are bunkers to be visited !

Rod,
Sorry I can’t contribute to the ‘famous relative’ post….I’ve tried to think of someone but none ever amounted to anything, especially recent ones…..

Followed your advice, my car has now been running continuously for the past 4 years, seems to be assisting our global warming objectives, can’t wait for my summer holidays. Extra boost tonight, will be turning on every electrical appliance in my house in support of the WWF - Wiser World Fund for independent thought.

Hot Summer? Well I doubt it somehow, however I shall try to remain open minded to the possibilty. Last time it was really hot here was, apparently, the end of May 2009. Where was I? In Sicily! The heatwave had hit there too however and even I, a seasoned traveller, struggled in 45 degrees celsius. However, I shall join OCB in the global warming attempts by putting my foot down in my environmentally unfriendly, 15 year old sports car. Might as well have some fun!!
When it comes to the budget, I am with you on that one Rod. You really don’t need to hear it. It’s always the same; small employers having to struggle again with some rise or another in tax or NI, tobacco going up in price, alcohol going up in price and yet another rise in the cost of fuel
. It’s all too predictable I;m afraid!

Unfortunately our cunning plan does not appear to be working. I have made every effort including chucking those dangerous mercury vapour filled energy saving bulbs in the bin, lit the paraffin heater and exceeded the speed limit in the lowest possible gear for as long as possible, yet its still cold, polar bear numbers are increasing and the polar caps are expanding. Is there any hope of me having a decent holiday in Skegness this year if this chill continues?

OCB,
your commitment to the cause does you great credit but I would defend my ‘cunning plan’
It’s a plan that shows promise but granted is far from fruition - we’ll know we’re getting somewhere when the polar bears migrate to Sweden and Scotland et al
I suspect the challenges of having a good holiday in Skegness extend beyond the obvious meteorological hurdles but the fact you’re willing to try is a testament to your resilience !
Keep up the good work - together we can make a difference !
All the best
