Will Digital Photography Ruin Our Heritage

I was minded to consider whether the advent of digital photography would ultimately lead to many of us losing our past and cherished moments.

Families fish out old photographs and go through them etc sometimes generations after they were taken, important if such family matters interest you.
What will happen to all those memories being captured today on mobile phones and digital cameras?

I know they can be stored and backed up but how many do ?
What if hard drives crash etc. Photos saved to discs will be obsolete in a few years - all will be lost.
Personally, I don’t much care, my pictures are crap anyway ! If you want to see digital photography in action here is one by my brother, note composition etc (I know most will note it anyway given the stature of our visitors, but there may be the odd person who needs a nudge)

So will the next generation lose their heritage, memories and a record of the events in their life?

    Rod,
Would it be possible for your brother to update your changing photos, as I am getting bored with them. I do agree that you are (in your own words) “crap” at taking photos and your brother is the master photographer. Sorry to be the one to tell you that at last, I have found something you are Not Good at.

    Femme Fatale,
Thanks for the compliment but after wiping my memory card clean with all of last night’s Grimsby soiree and morning at Villa Goldeneye before downloading them I have relegated myself to the Kodak disposable brigade.
I had determined myself not to have a drink tonight but after that crushing blow I reached for the Gin.
    LB (and he’s bloody annoyed)

ps watch out for some prize winning legumes at a spot near you!

I shall try and book David Bailey for a series of portraits.
I may wait till the end of the year and have a calendar done - it could be a bestseller :)
    Best

    Rod,

Yes, some photographs showing the creative, fun loving, contemporary you would be welcome …. how about LB capturing you on a bouncy castle in mid bounce :)
