Who Are the Worst Dressed in the World

Welcome style and couture freaks - I’m sure when you awoke this morning you thought to yourself
“Who Are the Worst Dressed in the World”
Well, there are plenty of contenders for that crown but I can tell you who the worst dressed men and women in Europe are
It’s the . . .
British
Yes folks we’ve won another accolade - somewhat unfairly I would say. Although going out shows only too clearly that certain groups of people seemed intent on winning the award for the UK as it’s impossible to think that even the most sartorially challenged Britain could dress as some do, look in a mirror and think “I look good in this”

Those who organized the poll believe the Primark Culture for cheap throwaway clothing in this country is largely to blame. Personally I’d say it is more to do with the image many people abroad have of the British - drunk and terribly dressed - personally I blame it on the chavs !
Chav with pramWe’ve managed to beat the Germans into second place - needless to say French and Italian women reign supreme in the style stakes whereas British women are deemed to be overweight with terrible clothes, hair, teeth and make up !
The British male is deemed to be a drunken, aggressive yob wearing sports clothing.

The Character to the left, Vicky Pollard, is, or at least purports to be, a comic caricature but the reality is; walk down any town centre here in the UK and they’re all over the place - all pushing prams and aged 13 upwards, all wearing jogging trousers and the like and hair tightly pulled into pony tail (known here as The Croydon Facelift.
We have the highest rates of teenage pregnancy, STDs and obesity in the whole of Europe - it’s all this that’s won us the award

What is interesting is, whether right or wrong, we are now associated with many abroad for this image rather than Savile Row, bowler hats and the English Gentleman
It’s all about stereotyping and clichés of course but as I always say; these require a kernel of truth - not only to seed in the first place but to prosper subsequently.

If you do nothing else check out this article I wrote it’s truly fascinating and I think the biggest and best window into what people all over the world think - I’d welcome more interest and any comment in that post.

Is there some truth in all this ?
Are we the the worst dressed here in the United Kingdom ?

Yours in Stylish Attire
Rod

    Rod,
Croydon Facelift!!! That’s the best thing I’ve heard in ages!! It’s like we admit defeat before we start, Primark might be crap but it’s a brilliant business model.
Go no further than the Costa del Sol to witness Brits at their best. I saw a couple of corkers yesterday. Saying that the Spanish admit that without the British they’d be skint.
They can’t rely on coffee swilling Frenchies when the Brits knock back the pints and vodka-oranges to get them out of recession
Off to Primark when I get back!

    FF,
it’s not exactly a matter of national pride is it :(
Bad news really - I know it can be taken as a bit of a joke but it’s not funny when you really get down to it and as you rightly say
but its true what you say

    LB,
I think Primark come out of this unfairly, I would argue that because of Primark there is NO excuse.
Primark is not the fall guy but the answer. All that Chav clothing doesn’t come from there but most importantly it does offer anybody the opportunity to dress well.

All you need is some idea of style and some idea of how to choose clothes and it’s never been as cheap to look well-turned out - there’s no excuse.

Your mention of Spain is timely as it does go towards proving the point - the opinion is based on the stereotypical British Tourist. I remember talking to a Greek guy once who owned bars and he said we don’t mind the Brits:
The men spend loads on drink but always end up fighting so it’s love/hate with them
We like British girls though “they’re all easy”
    His exact words
    Cheers

PS: I’ll get you a Primani Voucher for your birthday

    Rod,
Speaking to a Spanish waiter last night. He said “My friend, you should try a Venezuelan woman. Wow!! They want to look after you, you know-you want massage? Not like your British women amigo, they say-how much you got in your pockets!!!!!”

    Good old Juan

Hee,Hee! At last someone has said it! Sadly it’s all too true about the Brits. I sometimes wonder why I bother trying on clothes to ensure that they both fit and suit me when 90% of those around me obviously just don’t give a toss what they look like.

As for Brits abroad, oh dear!!! It is somewhat worrying that folk obviously don’t have mirrors in their hotel room or at home for that matter. I have seen a few, nay many, people who obviously have those amazing suitcases that actually shrink their clothes whilst the flight is in progress. The evidence is usually around the poolside on day one!

Oh well, I shall continue to maintain my pride in my appearance regardless. If I achieve nothing else, I shall, one day, be a well dressed corpse :-)

Today, 5 days after I wrote this, the best-selling newspaper in the country is running the topic as a discussion - where I lead the national press follow :)

As to being a well-dressed corpse LL - I’m all for that - I intend to cut a dash in my shroud !

Working at Humberside Airport, i see overseas visitors day in day out coming into the country. I must admit that the worst dressed people BY FAR are the Americans, closely followed by the Germans.

Americans, you can nearly guarantee have either a baseball cap on OR sandals with any combination of other clothes, normally not colour coordinated!!!

Please have pity on me having to have a good laugh about it!!!

    HH,
I’m already feeling sorry for you - drowning in a sea of loud shirts and polysester trousers :)
there’s plenty out there who can give us a run for our money on this award as you say

    Hi Rod,

I agree with History Hunter, the yanks are the worst dressed, I was flying to Vegas the other week and let me tell you, I thought I was getting on a plane to a little britain convention, yes shell suits and velour tracksuits are in :(
Also black jeans white trainers :S Oh and not to mention fat guys in small t shirts wearing sandals with socks mmm lovely!

    Hi Emma,
it’s looking like there’s a contender for the crown currently worn by the Brits then :)
I often wonder about the fat guys in small t shirts you mention. The tshirts are always too small, cheap and well worn - given they cost about £2 each you’d think the A: they’d replace them and B: get one that fits, or at least covers their stomach.
Great to hear from you again Emma
    Take care

    Hi Rod,

Your right, not to mention that it would be nice if they washed the t shirts when they have the nice fast food stains down the front hehe!
Its sunny here in USA, and yes you guessed it the green peace beach patrol where out in force to pull some of the ghastly sights back into the ocean!!
I have a question why do some clothing companies manufacture bikinis in a size 18 plus??
And do you think that the people wearing them genuinely think that they look good in them? I just dont get it!
    Regards

    Emma,
I’ve some really bad news for you - you’re thinking exactly on the same lines as me - I suggest you seek medical attention :)

I completely confused as to what people think it’s a good idea to wear Emma but I can go one better than your size 18 bikinis.
There’s an Ann Summers lingerie shop in town and I always find myself strangely drawn to the posters in the window  a while ago they had a picture of a stunning woman in a stunning skimpy silky get up - I nearly passed out in fact I did when I saw the strap line underneath - available in sizes up to 24 !!!!

The thought of that dismissed all others from my mind !
    Take care Emma

    Rod,
I used to have a boss (in UK) who was a size 20 and she used to buy the naughty outfits from Ann Summers.
Nedless to say I could never bring myself to visit the shop again after I had been there with her on a stop off from a business meeting where she purchsed a huge rubber outfit with matching whip and cap :) !
These people need to be stopped its a matter of public decency, no wonder we have obese kids walking round in clothes that they are bursting out of and think its ok because we make them to fit that way! (i have finished my rant for today!)
