When was the first email ?

Well I guess I’m on a roll here with world firsts!

I was researching the bequests made by John of Gaunt in his will and among all the glittering gold and jewels an even greater treasure shone forth!

This is the earliest reference to an ‘Email’ that I’ve ever seen!

Can you beat 1856?

As you can now see, I. Google’s roots are in the tiny Norfolk village of Trunch. It’s a shame it wasn’t in Lincolnshire, but then life can’t be perfect can it? I’m off now to hunt down a 14th. century W.E. Facebook, as suggested by LB. Shouldn’t be too difficult should it? I suppose T.H.E. Webb, I. Tweet and I. Blogg have already been done….

I have an update: Here are some of his ancestors I’ve discovered today…..

John GOOGLE christened 23 Feb 1575 - parents John & Fayth Google
Susan GOOGLE christened 1577 - parents John & Fayth Google

Temperantia GOOGLE christened 1598

All Christened in the same village as he

Something to bear in mind too is that up to the early 19th century, ‘J’ was often written as ‘I’; so in fact, our original candidate may well have bee John, James or possibly Jacob.

Temperantia - I bet she could be a bit difficult to get on with
