When is a Woman Past it ? What Age is Old ?

Men grow distinguished and women get old !
It’s an old saying but one which came to mind today whilst looking at papers. It started with my brother writing about airbrushing and reinforced itself with the front page of an online newspaper running 4 stories about ‘old women’
Strikes me as a load of old tosh !

The same paper is running a story about Demi Moore defending herself against claims ’she’s starting to look old’ - to her credit she retorted “I’m 47 how am I meant to look”.
Let’s leave aside the fact she looks great and plenty of women half her age should look so good - does her age matter ?

Madonna also gets the same treatment on the same page.
sexy dolce and gabanna advertHere’s your typical housewife, well marriage would be on the up if it was  It seems she’s too old to be posing for seductive pictures as well !
She’s showing signs of her age it seems !

Pamela Anderson is too old for her costume in the pantomime she’s starring in . . . and so it goes on.

I’d bet the farm on one thing - all of these snide articles were written by fat women who look a mess and are half the age of those mentioned !
It seems to me women can’t win. If they’re overweight they’re vilified. If they’re slim they too skinny and the papers ‘fear for her health’
If they continue to make an effort as they get older they’re ‘mutton dressed as lamb’, if they don’t then they’ve ‘let themselves go’

They women mentioned above all have one thing in common - they look great !
Who cares how old they are ? They either look good or they don’t !
It’s pure sexism !

I say that not to win the female vote but because it is sexism by definition.
Men are not treated in the same way - how many articles do you see about Pierce Brosnan looking old. He is looking old but he’s not being vilified by the press !

I know they’ve a ton of column inches to fill everyday but that’s not excuse for hypocrisy, remember when I reported Kate Moss was being journalistically lynched when she said Nothing Tastes as Good as Skinny feels - well the same paper that was screaming for public apologies because it encouraged young girls to be skinny whilst the story they ran to one side was how to lose two dress sizes in a month and were running adverts for diet pills !

Give these women a break - even if you don’t care about the crap you write think about how ridiculous it makes you look as a so-called newspaper !
Yours Looking fabulous at 44

    Rod,
I think some of us are also guilty in assuming, because a famous woman is over 40 and looks fab, that she has got the money to pay for treatment, whereas we have to grow old gracefully and let nature take its course.
I think, personally, its a jealousy thing and you are right about the people who write these articles.
Why cant we just be happy for these beautiful, middle aged women? ;)

    FF,
that’s a very good point indeed, just because some peole have ‘had work done’ doesn’t mean they all have and likewise that it is entirely the reason they look the way they do.
Look at the lovely Pammie mentioned above, ignore the implants (if that’s possible :) ) she’s in great shape.

I think there is jealousy involved here and a desire to knock people down who’ve achieved success in their field

    Regards
    Rod
