What’s the Best Aftershave in the World
What’s the Best Aftershave for Men in the World ?
Who makes the finest Cologne, or fragrance for men ?
Here’s the answer . . .
No 89 by Floris of London !
That’s the answer folks, the company is by Royal Appointment ( Purveyors of The Finest Perfumes & Toiletries to the Court of St James’ Since the Year 1730 ), it’s the fragrance originally, supposedly and a favourite of Ian Fleming himself, worn by James Bond in the Ian Fleming books and also, most notably, the one worn by me

Floris No 89 The Best Aftershave in the World !
Interestingly, I notice the top suggested search prefixed with ‘Aftershave’ on Google is ‘Aftershave for Men’ would that be opposed to millions searching for aftershave for women ?!
That’s all by-the-by back to Floris’ Eau de Toilette supreme . . . No 89, it’s pretty exclusive so don’t bother looking on your local high street for it, unless of course your local high street is Jermyn Street in London !
I was afeared some years ago that it was no longer available and that it would be consigned the many fine and civilised things in this country have been . . to the dustbin of history but . . .it ‘came back’
I’ll let you pick the bones out of the official description from the Floris website, if you’re wondering where you can buy No 89 online then their website is the place, I’ve highlighted in bold the bit that matters !
“Orange and bergamot blended with lavender and neroli give No.89 its classical cologne aspect. Warmed with a touch of spicy nutmeg, the floral heart is underscored by the dominant woody accord of sandalwood, cedarwood and vetiver in this quintessentially English gentleman’s fragrance.”
If you’d like to know just what it smells like then the only two options I can think of are to buy some or to sniff me !
If choosing the latter option I would recommend making a prior arrangement as due to the exclusive nature of No 89 Eau de Toilette I only wear it on special occasions !
In all seriousness and a for a proper opinion or review of Floris No 89 I can tell you it’s superb, subtle and fresh, the scent lasts all day, it also lasts a long time in the bottle which makes it great value, whilst not cheap it is well worth the expense, especially if you hope to be taken for an English Gentleman
Fragrantly yours,
Rod

There is no ‘BEST’ aftershave per se, as each individual has a different body chemistry which reacts with the scent, making it smell slightly different from one person to the next. There can obviously be a personal favourite, or favourites, but just because you like it and it smells good on you, truly means nothing.
I, personally, have about 8 favourites because they react well with my body chemistry and I feel a confidence in wearing them.
My personal faves are Jovan Musk for Men, Aramis, Joop, Roma, JPG Le Male, Paul Smith London, Fahrenheit and Obsession.
The good thing is that working at an Airport i have access to the Duty Free shops, and almost every day I am there having a free spray…..just to cover the stench of the working man!

Must admit Chris that Brut is a classic smell still, but unfortunately doesnt do a lot for me.

HH,
that’s a remarkably technical answer it seems your coat buttons up over many things !
Do you have to ask for a ‘free spray’ or are they offering you it
Adding to your list of recommendations:
I also have and very much like Davidoff Blue Water and Bulgari Aqua
You are what you smell like
to paraphrase !

Chris,
I think birds of both the feathered and non-feathered variety are most likely to be lured by chips from what I’ve seen in Cleethorpes

They allow us to have a spray whenever, as long as there are no passengers around………..which is quite a lot of the time at the moment!!!

I shall be applying Bulgari après-rasage lotion post ablution this morning followed by a discrete spray or two of Bulgari Aqua
It’s then just the tricky matter of selecting a suitable scarf . . . .

sorry bit off topic but is that an ad I see on this page? - is it something new or just something I have never noticed before?

Minnie
I assumed it had been taken by this be-scarfed English gentleman.
I am sure it smells good. Really, I just like a man to be very clean and fragrant . I don’t usually mind what individual fragrance it is. Lynx and Brut, however, might possibly be non starters for many.

First brand I ever bought was Blue Stratos, then Brut and Old Spice.
Now I just use whatever the wife buys me. She even advises me which one to use when we go out.
I honestly wouldn,t use the stuff were it solely down to me !
I bathe/shower every day - so I’m fresh enough in the nether regions

Minnie,
it is a contextual ad test and quite what Jo Malone is or does is a mystery so in contextual terms it’s a miss not a hit

Is it just my computer or are these National Accident Helpline advertisements on every damn page you visit !!
Just noticed one below your lead comment above Rod.
They are REALLY getting up my nose.
Is there anything in ’settings’ that I can activate to stop them?
Regards,
Mick

Mick,
depends what type of ads they are. I got requests from companies who want to ‘rent space’ on this site to put their ads on - price depends on how prominent the placement and for how long (also it’s traffic related of course) that would then be specific for Acme Widgets
Above is know as contextual which means that a bot sent by Google reads the content on the page and then delivers adverts which reflect the page content (in theory)
Ideally there would be an advert for No89 which some people would click on over the coming years
Also what happens nowadays is that some companies give you a cookie for something specific you’ve looked at, when other participating sites see the cookie they serve up the specific ad.
For example I remember looking at a “Canon 70-200mm f2.8 MKII lens” at Warehouse Express
That’s really rather specific
Later that day I looked at a national newspaper and the main banner advert was for a “Canon 70-200mm f2.8 MKII lens”
Adverts are tricky, I know viewers don’t like them but there is another side. The internet isn’t free to those who provide the content, webmasters have to make a living as well.
People can rest assured that they won’t be subjected to ads etc here, but that does mean I have to carry the expense of the site, the direct and indirect cost of which would surprise many.
I only mention it so next time you visit somebody’s site and see adverts, they may well be there so somebody can pay the hosting fees, pay their rent and buy food !

I’ve actually got an old website and I block every user running adblocker, they cannot view the site

Mick,
if you’re using FF then check out the plugin if you want to be rid of ads etc.
If you’ve looked at some online insurance then that could be why you’re getting them - clear your cookies and history that should get rid of it.
I should add that whilst I’m in favour of monetizing websites for webmasters I don’t think many help themselves with intrusive adds or pop ups etc

Ive removed the NAH cookie and now I see an add for essential oils.
I can live with that
Thanks for the tip Rod.

Adblock Plus and DoNotTrackPlus are the two favoured ones at the moment.
Its all down to personal choice. I dont like, dont want, dont need adverts on any webpage. I am a logical human being (I know that would be doubted by a few) and if I want to buy anything, I am perfectly capable with the help of Google (other search engines are available) to find exactly what I am looking for.
Yes I can see the reasoning for it on your part Rod, but I dont think you would make a million from this individual anyway.
BAND BEFORE YOU ASK…….NO I DONT WANT TO BUY ANY ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION TABLETS OR INDEED A P*NIS ENLARGER OR OVERSIZE WOMENS CLOTHING………………again!
Rod said,

HH
I dont think you would make a million from this individual anyway
That’s the main reason for not bothering to block people with adblocker as they wouldn’t click on an ad anyway - I did it to experiment and also out of principal.
I dont like, dont want, dont need adverts on any webpage
That’s fair enough and I understand that but as with everything in life somebody has to pay for it, not everybody can have everything for nothing.
On this subject I always say to people:
The internet is like life, it’s not so much that something is free it’s that somebody else is paying the cost for you
I got an email this morning asking me if I would take money to put a link to a website in one of the articles on this site !

Thanks for explaining that - I didnt really have a problem with the ad, but hadnt noticed them on here before. I did find it a little strange seeing an ad for veterinary software systems on here tho and just wondered if you were branching out into something new?
Rod said,
February 22, 2012 @ 6:19 am
Minnie,
you’ve not spotted them before because they’re not really on here generally Minnie
the ad you saw shows how much use they are
The one I see now is for essential oils, so whilst still no aftershave they’ve managed to get to humans at least
