What Dress Size Was Marilyn Monroe ?
Well, the perceived wisdom over the years has been a UK size 16 hence her iconic status as a poster girl for the ‘larger lady’ or ‘normal woman’ movement.
Bad news I’m afraid . . .
Marilyn Monroe was actually a UK size 10 !
Yes, it seems that for the majority of her career and certainly the most iconic films she fluctuated between a size 8 and a size 10. The urban myth has finally been slain by a journalist looking at the famous collection of her outfits owned by David Gainsborough Roberts.
She actually got the chance to try some of the dresses on and they were too small - the reporter was a UK size 12 !
I have to say I never thought she looked like a size 16, especially not when you consider there was no Vanity Sizing nonsense then but likewise I also don’t think she was ever a size 8 on screen !
The reporter probably came to that conclusion in comparison to the dress size she is - and that may well be completely different to the times when Marilyn Monroe’s dresses were made.
Either way it’s semantics really - the main point is . . .

I suppose it doesn’t take much to start these sorts of things in the first place then everybody takes it as read and repeats in in endless articles and books until nobody even questions it anymore.
The advent of the World Wide Web must have made this even worse, stories multiplying at an incredible rate all using scraped and rehashed content - Wikipedia Problems would be the prime example of this.
I may start some rumours just for the hell of it and see just what happens
