What Are Peoples Greatest Fears

What Scares People the Most - What Are the Most Worrying Things in Life
I was going to do this as a Top 10 list type of thing but then thought differently on seeing this

Looking at a poll, granted slanted toward this type of thing, when asked the above question the biggest selection was Dying Alone.

It got me wondering what exactly do people worry about.
Naturally circumstances, age, personal life will dictate much.
Parents will naturally worry about their children etc but there must be some common thread that applies to most of us.

Personally I have never been a worrier. Scratch that, I know I’ve just typed it but let me clarify.
I’ve never really worried about myself. I am far more likely to have concerns about the people I care about than I for myself.
I don’t want that to sound sanctimonious - it’s just I don’t really care much about what happens to me I supppose.

I am certainly not bothered about dying, I’ve medically done it before and it’s not unpleasant, quite nice in fact, I would would probably be more worried about being fat and penniless when I pass away than I would being on my own :)

Your age must be quite a defining factor in the things that bother us. The young are obviously both immortal and invincible so need not concern themselves with the Grim Reaper.
The young have always been thought of as largely carefree I think, or the concerns they do have are dismissed by many ‘adults’ as trivial.
I think that’s nonsense, young people’s worries are as stressful to them as financial worries are to adults.

With stress and depression rising to alarming levels things appear to be getting worse.
This is despite the fact that things are getting, theoretically and technically, better.

Do we worry about things we need not ?
Is there more to worry about in today’s world ?
Who has the most to worry about ?
What bothers you the most ?

Personally speaking, I wouldn’t call it a worry but one thought that does return to me is …
one day finding myself old and alone

How about you ?
Regards
Rod

    Rod,

Did you see the woman on tv last night who was terrified of buttons? Think they said it was a recognized phobia.

Do we worry about things we need not…. yes, how many times do we say to ourselves that something wasn’t that bad and that next time we won’t let it get to us?

Is there more to worry about…. well, we know more about what’s going on all over the world via modern day media, so could perceive that there is.

Who has the most to worry about…. should be those whose fingers are ‘on the button’ (sorry madam, just a figure of speech!) but we suspect it’s anyone who feels the weight of responsibility and cares deeply enough.

What bothers you the most…. the fact that the local authorities won’t allow us to turn people into toads. Things would be a good deal less worrying if they lifted that particular restriction… think slug patrol for a start :) Mind you, left in our hands the world could be over-run with toads and that in itself might be a worry.

Funny thing, fear. Sometimes useful, sometimes destructive.

I think we fear what we don’t know/the unknown. :fear:

Like you say you have “medically died before” so you don’t fear it, whereas others do.
You worry about being ‘old’ but really what is the point? If we are lucky, it is an inevitable thing that it will happen. As for being alone, i don’t believe anyone who is loved and has family will ever be alone.

I didn’t see the TV show I’m afraid.
I think there is much in what you say about a healthy dose of concern being quite useful, it keeps us aware and on our toes

    Jordan,
fear of the unknown makes a lot of sense but experiencing something may not rid you of the feat, in some cases possibly experiencing something unpleasant or worryiong may give you life-long concerns.

As for being alone, i don’t believe anyone who is loved and has family will ever be alone
Very nicely put and I agree.
That presupposes though that one has family left when one is old or indeed one is loved :(

    Rod,

You’re not old and alone…. you’re probably old and menopausal :) Lucky for you, your boyish tendencies ought to hold back the years and a few testosterone building gougeres will soon put things right … (this won’t be listed in any medical journal folks so don’t bother looking it up :) )

We’ve done a quick calculation and counted dozens of friends, a huge drain on Coven resources… so we can afford to part with a few in exchange for the ability to get into your jeans (and we don’t mean this in the biblical sense either folks so no sniggering). The swap will have to take place at dawn in a foggy park, near a bench… that’s the way they do it in the movies with state secrets :) You’ll never be alone and the Witches will be supermodels with curiously rolled up hems…. simple really :)

    amen to that !
Strangely enough, on my Bebo page there are some questions you provide answers to in order to tell people a littl emore about you.
    One of them is:
What are you afraid of ?
    My answer is women
