What Are Google Sitelinks

I’ve just had a great result for one of my websites, I’ve been awarded Google Sitelinks
Fantastic news it’s made my weekend - and then some !

For those unaware some websites that rank number one get an extra 5 links shown below the result.
This is regarded as a badge of merit or even ‘authority’
The exact criteria to qualify for them is only known to Google engineers and then are very difficult to attain for most sites.
Indeed I only have them one one site - as of this weekend

It’s a bit like a chef getting a Michelin Star or and actor an Oscar - well that’s how I see it anyway

Google Sitelinks
The screen cap above shows the result

I’m sure most of you will find this dull and uninteresting but it is a pretty big deal for me so I thought I’d share it with you - I hope you’re all pleased for me :)

As to how you get them; a lot is inbound link based I believe and being regarded as something of an authority site.
It is also important to have a clearly defined link structure I suspect.
Much could be traffic based though the selection of a couple of my links suggests other forces at play.

Anyway I’ll bore you no further - it’s just a real result for me
Enjoy the Weekend
Rod

    Rod,

This site is an authority on linking one subject directly with an entirely unrelated one, linking the high brow to the highly questionable…. so where does that leave us with regard to Olympic gold? :)

Well done for achieving this thingy… if the Witches were in the running, then we’re sure we’d feel exactly the same, as it is and because it doesn’t seem to involve a yard at all, we’re not clear on the detail but we’re delighted for you none the less :)

Well done, Rod. Trying to get linked up in this world of over-proliferation is quite an accomplishment. For those of us who live by the computer, and websites, we know just how important this is!!!! Since my son is a product manager for Gamespy.com I know that your business lives or dies by google and such.

    Hi Annie
    many thanks - much appreciated.
Also for the email tip-off about Ask, thought I’d check a few other searches on there as I haven’t bothered with it for quite a while.

One nice thing is it used to be called AskJeeves and my PG Wodehouse site ranks #1 for a search on the authors name :)

    Regards from England

Cool!!! I remember ASKJeeves, and am glad that it isn’t dead, but has just morphed into Ask.com. I find it more intuitive than Google, and use it almost exclusively.

I must admit after you mentioned I looked and they’ve certainly improved a great deal.
Their results used to be terrible compared to Google.
That said very few people use it, they send me virtually no traffic

And so another campaign begins. I recommend ask.com to all my friends, family and acquaitances. I will begin clicking in to your site via ask all the time to increase your traffic.
