Tuesday Lunch

In response to this comment from Mary in another thread

As an impoverished musician of the working class, I await with anticipation for a report on the Tues meet - what culinary delights and educated discussion sprung forth from the Horncastle Philosphy Group this week? Is always food for thought as I drive from one workplace to the next…

Mary,
firstly, sorry to hear you have to work for a living, most unfortunate. I would recommend any aspiring musician in the Horncastle area to seek shelter and refuge in one of the many wings of Lyn’s house!
We also know one of the town’s more ‘comfortable’ residents - he could possibly become a patron of the arts and ensure you are able to concentrate solely on your music.

Needless to say, this group has barely a nodding acquaintance with work thereby allowing time for the appreciation of the finer things in life :)
Such as a superb bacon and egg flan, side salad, cherry tomatoes and potato salad, lashings of fine fresh french ground coffee. This was followed by a tiffin of fine fresh fruits, strawberry, pineapple, fired peaches to name but a few. These delights are savoured over a few hours and interspersed with delightfully witty and intelligent conversation.
So for all of the latin aficionados out there the food was, mirabile visu and this tale mirablie dictu.
In short Mary, your blood tie, and clear good taste, guarantee entry to this exclusive club
join us - you know it makes sense!

Rod, I’m wondering who would be the more troublesome, RF and his fast serve or Mary and her plethora of cellos and double bass? Besides, there’s no more room at the inn, Colin Firth has applied for the job of gardener…. how could I refuse.

p.s. while taking tea at one of my beauticians today, I flicked through the July GQ and thought page 29 fashionably smart …. what say you? Oh yes and doesn’t Steve McQueen in his prime look sublime. Might take this journal on a regular basis. Lyn

Mary clip-clopping about in her high heels could also be a problem!
No doubt Colin’s first job will be to clear the lake out!

As to GQ, the top half of page 29 is OK, the bottom half contains shorts and sandals so that’s an absolute no no

Steve McQueen is, was and always will be an absolute style icon
I would not recommend a regular subscription, less of course you obtain said publication FOC via a third party, as I myself do

    Bon soir
    Rod

Rod, I’ll check out the mens department in Liberty tomorrow on your behalf ….. I shall of course, avoid shorts and sandals.

In my absence Colin is in charge. He is currently whittling himself a willow shed at the end of the garden (he’ll look lovely in his new Liberty print shorts!) Lyn

The last time this third party saw you buy a copy of GQ the New Romantics were in fashion.

I do not clip-clop in high heels!
Mainly due to my new wooden floors!
On more serious matters, I am concerned about the sandal issue having been shown around a very chic (i.e. expensive) surfing shop in Lincoln by my 12 yr old son who, it seems, has decided views on the flip-flop! Certain flip-flops are it seems very acceptable for men - so long as they say Quicksilver, Gul, O’Neale etc., etc.
Are there any surf dudes in Horncastle that can advise?
And why does Lincoln need a surf and snow boarding boutique?!
(Cornwall surfing holiday (well body boarding is close) looming!)

    Lyn,
enjoy the day out, be careful what you buy.
I somehow think that if Jane Austen had dressed any of her characters in print shorts then most of the mystique would have been lost.

The latin remains at the same stage as it was last year:
Better than it might be but not as good as it could be!

    Little Brother,
I beg to differ, it was in fact when the publication was exactly what it’s titled to be.
i.e. Gentleman’s Quarterly and it came out every three months, it was much the better for it as well

    Mary,
sorry to hear about the heels, all girls should clip-clop in heels - maybe it’s just a male thing!

As to sandals and surf wear (shudder), having stayed in Newquay several times some years ago I would recommend the original Fat Willy’s Surf Shack although as it has become so commercialized it may be a little trite now.

I couldn’t go surfing myself as the salt water would play havoc with my hand-lasted brogues :)
    Regards
    Rod

Mary, as you know, my closet spans more than two decades worth of ‘fashion’ and good taste in general. Surfing kit is perfectly acceptable while on the coast and in some cases when socializing as long as it suits the body in question. I do understand the corset quality of a wet suit might well be advisable for some of us under our clothes for support at all times ….. Rigby and Peller are currently working on mine!

p.s. don’t tell Rod about my leopard print peddle pushers of the past or any of my other fashion disasters for that matter, I have my reputation to think about, mixing with the rich and famous! Lynnie x
