Today is the Worst Day of the Year
January 22 is the worst day of the year !
Today, or Blue Monday as it has been termed, is officially the most depressing day of the year.
Post xmas jollies are fading, cold weather, credit card bills from the festive overspend start to land on the doormat. Many people’s new year’s resolutions are seen to be failing etc.
Plus, Monday is the most depressing day of the week - apparently !
Needless to say, this has university research behind it and is based on an equation devised by one Dr Cliff Arnall. Quite how he comes up with an equation for this and what he factors in to it one can only guess.
That said, it seems to have gotten wide coverage and responses from notable groups and agencies, including The Samaritans who claim a staggering 1 in 5 people in the UK are depressed at this time of year !
I hope all that read this are feeling full of the joys of spring
Hope Springs Eternal (as our friend Alexander Pope beat me to saying)

Reasons to be cheerful

1: I woke up this morning - many didn’t
2: Yes it’s Monday, but I don’t have to go to work
3: I am happy in myself and with my lot
well that’s a quick three that come to my mind
PS: One reason to be miserable, snow and ice forecast for tomorrow so no Horncastle trip

Yah boo sucks to that! Little Wing is on Planet Rock and I’m off to see Casino Royale this afternoon. What’s to be miserable about?

The Witches are predicting light rain and temperatures above freezing for Horncastle tomorrow …… there is also a high probability of Gougere on the menu.
Drive slowly.

I’ve just come back from a walk and got caught in a freezing hail storm !
The forecast for tomorrow said ice and possible snow !
Just my luck that gougere was on the menu, although it is fattening so perhaps it’s for the best

Rod,
That’s Grimsby for you. We in sunny Horncastle are hoping for some Camelot weather but just in case, the old sledge has been dusted down. It is cold though, time for another tree on the fire, marshmallows at the ready.

We don’t understand this northern idea that when the weather gets a bit chilly you don’t go out? Has he always been like this?
Anyway, fitness report …… all this exercising has left us with numerous muscle strains and an odd sort of limp, hardly a Milanaise swing! It’s going to take time before we’re Bond girl material, oh how we wish we had a hot tub, this would be the perfect day for it.
Tomorrow’s course sounds fantastic, presumably we’ll need an apron and a wicker basket?!

Re cold weather; yes, he’s always been like that-it’s to do with womens clothing-they wear too much of it.
I share your discomfort, I over did it on squats on saturday and now I can’t walk down the stairs properly. I keep telling myself it’s all for my own good but my knees are telling me otherwise.
Off to see what all the fuss about DC is now.

Re cold weather; yes, he’s always been like that
It’s not the thought of the cold weather that bothers me, it’s ending up in a ditch on the icy Lincolnshire back roads, something I have very nearly done several times.
After 3 things to be cheerful about, here’s 3 things to be miserable about
1: Things not going according to plan
2: Standing still whilst time flies by
3: Wasted days
I’ll try and think up another 3 to be cheerful about

Hello All,
Monday 22nd January 2007 - The worst Day of the Year .
Well there’s an interesting fact.
” I would like to know which is the Best Day of the Year ?.”
Anyway it makes no difference to myself, as all the days of the week are
as-one, a Monday is no different to a Sunday.
Being self employed as with most or all of the self employed in the UK who tend to work or keep an eye on their business 7 days a week
a single day or which day of the week it actually is,
is of little or no importance as we toil away seven days a week.
I often wonder though to what end as the economy in the UK seems shot, people are not spending and tales of woe and despair
can be heard from one and all.
I wonder if all of the UK is starting to feel a change in the air, a feeling you can not explain, or just a feeling that you may be loosing control of things you once had full control of, such as your business or home finances.
Let me explain”
As things get more expensive, such as the mortgage, gas and electricity our spare cash goes down ,
by spare cash I mean over and above our total weekly or monthly living expenses.
Its this spare cash that interests me, as its this spare cash that benefits a lot of others, such as shops and small businesses.
Once this spare cash dries up and stops circulating we all start to suffer.
This spare cash once spent on hobbies, luxury items and family days out is no longer being spent by a vast percentage of the population, which I think will have a drastic effect on many small businesses and the country in general.
If it has not already, it may also explain why some of you are feeling a little gloomy ……. take a look at your spare cash , you may not have noticed its demise due to the cost and rising cost of basic living !

Dear ARB,
We too have felt the ‘pinch’ … serves us right, standing too close to LB during cookery class …
As a mature member of society you must have seen some changes in your time … go steady though and remember The Goldeneye Retirement Plan, the eventual sale of your property will be the deposit we need to secure the estate for the rest of us in due course. Any spare cash can be taken care of in the Goldeneye current account … so he tells us.

Dear Witches of Eastwick ,
Yes - I look forward to my retirement, which i think will be here way before the Grand Retirement plan is up and running.
I shall be looking for Sun and a cheaper cost of living ……..

ARB
there is a great deal in what you say, I always think like this.
Over 90% of the population spend all their money as and when they get it.
They live week to week or month to month. This is not reflective of their income either, high earners do the same.
Given the above fact when something like gas and mortgage sticks £50 odd a month on expenses that is £50 that person X will not spend elsewhere.
He feels his life is affected and any business that would have benefited from his custom is £50 down.
WoE
I awoke today to a carpet of snow outside !
I am also pleased to hear you remember the Goldeneye Retirement Plan.
I still think it a winner, there would be superb dining all provided by the residents - also a touch of glamour provided by our very own Jordan and Thong Chick.

Jordan,
We haven’t heard from you for a while now … let’s hope it’s because you are enjoying life too much and haven’t had the time. This site needs more female opinions, we must continue to instruct the menfolk about important issues. Without us frankly they don’t stand a chance!

I am sure Jordan will be back with us soon - as you say she is missed on the site and makes a great contribution.
I like female opinions anf thoughts on this site, speaking as a bachelor, it is certainly preferable to get them from my websiterather than from the couch at night

I resent the accusation of pinching during my classes, as I explained to the Constable, it’s a nervous twitch brought on by asparagus and oysters.

It’s sunny and warm in Horncastle this morning. Now the gloom of yesterday has gone, we are expecting an upturn in spirit and some hot gossip.
Typically, this will be the day when a coach load of hot chicks breaks down outside the book shop!
Enjoy your custodia,

that sounds like the plot line for a film I may commission, I’ll play the lead role of course. I suspect it would ‘go straight to DVD’ rather than compete with Casino Royale but what a way to go bankrupt !

WoE,
Thanks for the invite, but I fear I may be out of my depth. I tend to leave crushing philosophical statements to ‘ar kid’.
I enjoyed the movie but not the company of six old age pensioners. After several cinematic broadcasts asking us to switch our mobiles off and refrain from talking one woman’s phone kept beeping until she could find her glasses in her handbag to switch it off. I was then treated to fifteen minutes of the moron behind me going ‘ooh’, ‘tut, tut, tut’, ‘did you see that?’ and ‘that’s a bit far fetched’ until I stood up and asked him what part of the ‘do not talk during the movie’ did he not understand.
They say kids are a nuisance. Well, they are, in fact, if I was Blair I’d have everyone up to the age of twenty two and over fifty five incarcerated, if you’d seen the woman in front of me at the gym car park giving a masterclass in an eight-point turn you’d knowwhat I mean.
