The Urban Kitchen Garden
A Diary of an Urban Kitchen Garden
How to realistically and effectively grow your own vegetables.
The purpose of this post is several fold so can I say before it starts:
Sorry to regulars who find it boring
Thanks to those who show an interest
And thanks to my brother - in a big way
I’ve never really thought much about the aspects of an older and younger brother dynamic, big brother - little brother has obvious connotations.
Whatever they are, at times they are reversed and little brother becomes big brother.
The pictures in this post are courtesy of LB but not in the usual way.
I took them with my new super deluxe camera set up - all courtesy of LB - a gift and an awesome one at that, full rig with lenses serious piece of kit - not a digital compact as I’ve used before !
Yes folks Goldeneye is once again with camera !

Yellow Beans
Above are some yellow beans coming on very nicely and grown from seed sowed directly outdoors. These are a little different, they came from Germany and I have not seen them here in the UK.

Sprouting French Beans
The above picture shows a dwarf green bean, haricot vert etc etc. Grown from seed I now have two rows showing nicely. They provided a great crop last year and I hope for similar success this year

Courgette
The first courgette is already showing. These are in a raised bed (new feature for this year) as last year, in my ignorance, I didn’t give them enough room - not realizing just how they would take over.
These were originally from seed but grown on in a greenhouse and given to me by - guess who - hero of this piece My Brother !

Golden Gourmet Onions
I have the above Golden Gourmet onions, shallots, red onions and another which escapes me, not literally of course - Stop that Onion ! . After being planted in February they have come on really well though I fear some may have bolted. This could, or should I say probably is, my fault as I allowed the centre stem to grow to considerable heights and subsequently flower.
Sadly whilst feeling proud of how well they were doing I was ignorant as to the accursed phenomenon known as bolting !

Savoy Cabbages
I have both Savoy and red cabbages which are growing like the national debt !
At the time of writing I am currently battling yet another Caterpillar Invasion, if you view that page check out the already very apparent difference between my old camera and my new one.
You’ll forgive this eclectic post I hope as it sprang mainly from how pleased I was experimenting with the camera.
You’ll be seeing a lot more photographs now, not just the Kitchen Garden either before you all groan in unison.
Dedicated to LB aka BB
He Ain’t Heavy !

Rod,
Awesome! If I knew your beans were that good I’d have kept the camera! My borlottis have been ravaged by the elements once again. Make the most of those yellow beans as they lose their colour somewhat in the cooking process.
Great photos and a great garden.
Good work fella.

I’ll be steaming the yellow beans, if they bear fruit that is !

Rod,
Luck, lucky you to have such a brother. You have two things we covet, one is a flat stomach and the other is a brother like him.
We shall look forward to more photography from the Goldeneye perspective.

Once again, impressed. Are you cultivating it all for the “Goldeneye Summer BBQ?”

owes nothing to luck - unfortuntately.
I am indeed fortunate though the Adonis like - finely sculpted Goldeneye torso
I do get me fair share of treats and gifts though and for those I am extremely grateful and indeed lucky

many thanks !
High praise indeed, you strike me as a woman not easily impressed !
If we get some climatic stability then I shall use your timely reminder to think about planning yet another lavish Goldeneye Party !
Granted, there have been a few last minute hitches with previous efforts and I have also had to stop the Goldeneye Office Xmas Party because they staff always end up falling out with each other
But let us not be negative - all things are possible !
Cheers

You could hire a Bart Simpson bouncy castle for the occasion

Is there such a thing ? Please tell me there is
It could be a Simpsons theme party - naturally I would be El Barto
I’ll let others pick their own most suitable characters

Oh yes there is, google it, bouncy castles, slides, pools. Just think of the fun and the naked bodies in the Goldeneye grounds that this would create.
I would come as Maggie any suggestions what i can use as a pacifier?

Jordan,
how infantile do you think I am - I’ve had a look as suggested and the idea of hiring a Simpsons Bouncy Castle is ridiculous !
I’m Going to Buy One
You’re sounding like a scriptwriter for a Carry On film
Carry on Goldeneye !
any suggestions what i can use as a pacifier?
How about one of my Golden Gourmets

As to using one of your “Golden Gourmets” as a pacifier.
Golly, my eyes are watering at the thought of it!

Jordan,
Bouncy castles and nakedness is just fuelling RC’s fantasies ….. it’s his neighbours who will suffer as the kit is whipped off and he launches himself quite literally at his inflated ego
