No not all Brits are viewed or defined by those that choose to make bad choices or follow the crowd instead of stand out and be a unique individual.

Not all Americans think all Brits are bad. I just would like to see more of the amazing Brits take over and spread to be examples of what true Brits are really like not bing drinker so we know your all out there.

I recently visited the U.K. and was very sad to see so many woman and men of all ages either dressed so provocative, drunk and smoking. I am from the U.S. and seeing an individual walking down any street at 10a.m. with a beer and as you call them a fag in the other so sad.

I asked my husband is this legal here I was so confused and shocked. In U.S. you’d be arrested as zero tolerance to public intoxication and provcative dress like I seen would certainly get the attention by the police and questionsI if youI where dress a street walker/prostitute.

I guess it was a bit overwhelming to see it so in your face.

Don’t get me wrong U.S. has it ’s problems in guns, and gangs but it was just everywhere what happen to leaving somethings to the imagination.

For the few British woman and men that I didn’t see enough you few will certainly spread in time.

I think one of the problems associated with many of the young Brits as you say is the type of people some of those European Students will have met.

If you come fro a place that’s doing 18-30 holidays or all you can eat and drink for £250 a week then they’re going to attract a crowd that you probably won’t see in trekking Montana or Nepal for example !

It’s a fascinating subject and very interesting to see how easily an image can spread across the world

I’m American, 24, born in California but raised in the south (South Carolina, to be exact). I came here to tell you that binge drinking isn’t a British thing; it’s a terrible “movement” amongst young people in the States as well.

I was a little bit abnormal in that I rarely drink. Because of this, I was always asked to be the DD (designated driver). As a college student getting p**s drunk is a sort of right of passage here. Thursday night is known as “college night” in many states. Fraternities and sororities are notorious for their drinking games at parties, etc etc. And even though a lot of young people start drinking in high school, it’s “tradition” to get extremely drunk on the 21st birthday - when it’s legal to have a drink.

The US is a big country, so drinking behavior does change slightly, but this is mostly true. It doesn’t necessarily change after college either. Recently, I’ve been working in Chicago, which is a bigger city. Young professionals go to work during the week, and Thursday - Saturday night they go out and party. They still binge drink, but obviously less extreme than college kids.

I will say that while we have our fair share of bad drinking behavior, I have not seen the same extremity of behavior that is described in this comment section.

Concerning the stereotype, the only ones of the Brits we have is bad teeth, lovely accents and a weird sense of humor. There is the backwards southerner who is pretty xenophobic in general and doesn’t like northerners, Brits and especially the French, but you’ve mostly got a good rep. here.

However, a lot of the European students I’ve met have all had negative impressions of young Brits. These were mostly German, French, Russian and Spanish students.

A lot of people poke fun at the short skirts for example, there’s nothing at all wrong with a short skirt, the problem is when you’re laying drunk in a gutter or doorway with . . . well you know the rest!

I don’t think anybody in the right frame of mind could think all English girls are the same, that’s ridiculous but what is true, and it’s borne out in all the comments above, there’s more than enough to create this stereotype.

I think it is the culture, I often have trouble making friends- well no haha I don’t have trouble, i’m very loving, bubbly, considerate & sociable but- I think a lot of british women are like this, all they want to do is get drunk and sleep with guys. I never did this, I’m 30. I always had self respect. So I find with socialising most british women don’t want to know you unless you do this! I find myself saying no to this kind of socialising- the binge drinking and when I say no, maybe suggest doing something else a little more fun I find that they are not interested or i’m not invited again or they don’t want to be friends! Fortunateyly I do have some wonderful, kind & good friends who are not like this! So not all British women are the same! I can vouch for this!

I know from knowing these sorts of women who get drunk/sleep around are loud abrasive that they are VERY low in self-esteem and confidence! Many donot like themselves, the hanging around in gangs, binge drinking just mirrors how they feel on the inside. The same with being overweight. I think a great lack of self confidence, love and self worth is probably the culprit.

I think women should have freedom to have sex as they choose, but should have self-respect for their bodies. I don’t think its self-respectful for men or women to be sleeping around- one night stands etc. You see women not knowing who a father is of a child, this makes me shudder haha! How can a woman not know who she has had sex with?! When?!! There must be many sexual partners, she must have no idea about her own body. Its very sad!

I’m vegitarian, around a size 8/10, very fit- love to exercise, I’m well educated, have a job I love, promotional model in my spare time. I don’t drink. So I definetly don’t fit this sterotype of Engish women. I’m also a geordie, I don’t fit the geordie steretypes either. I’m sure than are many lovely English women! Its a shame everyone is classed the same.

I have been absolutely shocked this evening while going for a drink in our (usually quiet) local with my wife after work. We were enjoying a pleasant evening drink when we heard noise and laughter outside on the street. A group of young girls, clearly on a ‘bender’, began to file in.

Now I understand that young girls want to have fun and liberation on occasion. But the size of the girls that clattered in in tight and revealing clothing astonished us - particularly my wife. Five out of the six girls that strutted straight to the bar must have been at least a size 16, and showed no concern whatsoever with being overweight. We were appalled by their appearance - these were YOUNG girls, not one of them could have been over 25, and it’s such a shame to see them fat at that age. One girl was clearly quite happy with showing off her bulging midriff, while two of her friends were clearly just as content showing off their enormous backsides. One of these women, a platinum blond girl wearing white leotards with chunky white heels, proudly pushed out her oversized buttocks as she bent over the bar to order her drinks stretched the lettering ‘Big Luv’ for all to see. A glorification of obesity indeed.

We tried to ignore the girls as they ordered their pints and downed them. Yet my wife and I barely had time to resume our conversation when we were interrupted by a loud belch. The girls simply laughed. One of them suggested a burping competition. My wife and I were so disgusted we left the pub immediately. I can honestly say that they seemed to enjoy making such an exhibition of themselves. What on earth is happening to young British women?

Differenet places attract different people . . . thankfully
