The Most Popular Authors in the UK
Who are the best selling writers in Britain ?
An interesting Top Ten has been compiled that includes sales from the past 3 years
The list leaves out children’s books, hence no Harry Potter. [sidenote] It was reported this week that JK Rowling is earning £5 every second of the day.
1) Jeremy Clarkson
2) Terry Prachett
3) Alexander McCall Smith
4) Jamie Oliver
5) Martina Cole
6) Ian McEwan
7) Ian Rankin
8) Sophie Kinsella
9) Katie Price
10) Bernard Cornwell
Jeremy Clarkson has it by a country mile with 3.8 million books sold since The World According To Clarkson was published in 2005. I’m surprised to see Alexander McCall Smith where he is and also Bernard Cornwell as he should be at number 1 ! I am beholden entirely to BC for my entire knowledge of historical facts (except for knowing the date of the Battle of Hastings that is )
I am once again toying with the idea of writing a book myself ![]()
With self-publishing being so easy nowadays getting into print is as easy getting into modern sized size 10s !
I’m sure the literary world would be much the better for a contribution from me
I was thinking of writing How to Get Rich Selling Used Books but if I’m going to write a work of fiction then it may as well be a mystery.
Possibly a high octane racy thriller reprising Rod Damon - it’s time we heard from him again, he’s been suspiciously quiet of late.
The weather being what it is curtails your host somewhat so I am looking for more indoor entertainment, options there are not quite what they might be either !
Sounds like an ideal writing opportunity - all I really need is a plot line to get me started (suggestions on a postcard)
Some possible alternative titles that spring to mind are:
-
How to get into size 10 jeans
The life and times of a Lincolnshire bachelor
How to win traffic and influence Google
Cycling tours around Lincolnshire
You too can look like Daniel Craig
Understanding female logic
How to raise children
Basic finance - from home budgets to running a country
The art of drinking and smoking
Beating the odds - the man they couldn’t hang
I’m sure my self-delusionary thoughts and opinions mean I’m eminently qualified to write wondrous works on many other subjects as well
- if you’ve any suggestions then leave a comment
All the best
Rod

Rod, J K Rowling reportedly earns £5 every second of the day but I knew a woman who could spend it quicker than that!

Rod,
We are especially looking forward to ‘understanding female logic’ and are delighted to note that you acknowledge the presence of it
As to the ‘life and times of a Lincolnshire bachelor’…. we’re sure every woman will relish this short chapter… a little light reading while mixing a batch of scones etc. Who do you have in mind to narrate the CD version?
Whatever it be, crack on with it, for winter will soon be upon us and anything guaranteed to keep out the cold will be most welcome…. stand by for dimensions of gap between door and floor and write accordingly
Please bare us in mynd for prouff reeding
WoE
p.s. seriously though, why not write a book? Would it cost much?

I first learnt about female logic from looking it up in a dictionary - it said :
see: oxymoron
Stephen Fry will be taking care of any narration - only the best will do !
It doesn’t really cost anything anymore to get abook out there. There are compnaies that do print on demand so the simply produce a copy when one is ordered, they even market it for you etc, so … easy enough !
best

Rod, all for “understanding female logic” that will be categorized under “fiction” I presumed or “mysteries” ?
Seriously though, it sounds like the sort of title nobody could ignore on the bookshop shelves, a potential bestseller!

Rod,
Another thought that has landed in our already overcrowded mind is… we must look at what the masses are drawn to, therefore we suggest including sock etiquette in any book, a vital and otherwise easily overlooked part of life

sock etiquette is a hot topic, still drags them in as does button down shirt etiquette written by our very own Rod Damon
Cheers
Rod Collins - not to be confused with Rod Damon !
