The Louth Meridian Line ~ The Greenwich Meridian

The Louth Meridian Line ~ The Greenwich Meridian
East meets West in a market town in Lincolnshire - you can, quite literally step from the East to the West in one step . . .

Back in 1884 a standardized zero degrees longitude was finally agreed internationally, it became known as the Greenwich Meridian.
It is the world’s Prime Meridian for measuring longitude and used not only for navigation but establishing time, well the only time that matter GMT or Greenwich Mean Time ;) .

We’ve covered before how the Greenwich Meridian line runs Cleethorpes and as we’re living in the finest place on earth here in Lincolnshire it’s only right it runs through another great place in the Golden Shire . . . Louth

Louth Meridian Line

The Prime Meridian travels around the world from north to south, and here in Lincs it has another special feature, one which only happens in 3 other places around the world . . .
It passes through Cordeaux High School which is one of only three schools in the world to lie exactly on the meridian.

The location of the meridian through Louth and the plaque shown above can be seen in Eastgate.

We welcome any more additional related information, please do leave a comment if you know of anything please do leave a comment below.
All the best,

Without being pedantic, surely the special feature only happens in 2 other places, Louth being 1 of the three?

Another very well known place in Lincolnshire that the Meridian passes through is the old RAF East Kirkby. I think on the other Meridian thread I list the places that the line passes through in Lincolnshire from North to South, as I seem to remember you said you might go to all the places on the line and get a photograph, or did I suggest it? (It would be a lot easier if I was to have a look at what was submitted last time rather than guessing)

Wonder how many churches are situated on it? Tetford looks like a main contender.

The church point is a good one . . . I’m not sure if there is one on the line, I’ve not heard of one but it would be very interesting to know for sure

There isnt one on the line in Lincolnshire. I have ‘done’ the line and there is nothing significant or of interest directly on the line apart from what has been mentioned previously.
