The iPod is Dead

The Apple iPod is already an iconic piece of technology and a pivotal part of the greatest revolution ever seen in the history of recorded music. Hugely popular and a must have up-to-date gadget.
Goldeneye Verdict: A thing of the past - finished !

It struck me the other day when looking at new mobile phones, they all have the ability to store a lot of music now so who’d bother carting an iPod or MP3 player about ?
Cell phones must already be on the verge of finishing the everyday digital camera market so how much longer before they replace music players, especially for a new generation ?

It’s pretty clear that before long mobiles will become perhaps the most integrated part of our lives.
Look how their usage has exploded. Falling prices and ever more realistic call inclusive packages mean there has been an explosion in people actually using their phones as opposed to just carrying them about.

With the advent of TV and video streaming to cellphones they are shortly to become all round entertainment devices that nobody can live without.

Clearly there are some issues with sound quality but these will soon be redressed as the camera issues were.

How do you use your cell phone and do you expect this use to change ?

    Rod,

We use our cell phone as a replacement for the old Coven pineapple chunk tin and string communication network. Certainly in the case of Witchlet, it would be unwise to combine too many features into one gadget unless it has a built in homing device.

Nothing here stands still for very long so we expect constant change, moving with the times and the Coven IT Dept’s lust for the lastest invention. As for our own design …. the sterile baked bean tin with organic string and built in (crammed more like) camera, we await critical acclaim ….

p.s. speaking of photography, who’s clenched torso is that flashing above?

I well remember making a phone using 2 bean tins and a length of string, I am reminded of the call quality every time I use my current phone, providing it works and does not cut out !
Or even if it always rung when someone calls as opposed to not ringing but sending me a text 15 minutes later saying I’ve missed a call !

If only they worked as well as they did 15 years ago :(

Flashing torso has been there a few days, an update for the “still some to lose” shot.

PS no clenching required, though taken after doing sit ups.
    DC workout anyone :)

One gadget for all, to include car keys, please - I just need 4 of them!

Anyhow, LW seriously cool with new phone - mock not, I will master it, I will!!!
So far the battle is 60:40 in favour of the phone - but it’s a nice colour!

Cannot imagine going back to Life Before Mobile - fully integrated part of life - Yep, I confess, it is!

The iPod isn’t dead, nor will it die for some time. It has evolved into the iPhone.

There will however always be people like myself, who want a phone simply to contact and be contacted. I have an iPod to listen to music. I don’t want convergence.

    Craig,
trust you to get the iPhone in :)
I myself prefer things to do one thing well rather then numerous things poorly.
I suspect the majority prefer convergence so the market will go that way.

When I say “dead” I mean as a phenomenon, I think that day is on the horizon

Stop there, that’s impressive, you’ll not do better, unless you’re 15 years old or younger. You should feel proud of yourself !
The last phone I got beat me completely - it’s more than a little embarrasing when you struggle to send a text message but can build websites !

    Yes and no !
As previously mentioned I was the body double for the aero man, and for that matter the Diet Coke man - they just stuck heads on my body :)

Be careful with those pictures, they may not be seen in Boots but could end up on the internet :)

    Rod,

Don’t want to harp on about the torso but for the sake of accuracy and for the benefit of other witches ….. are you always this scantily clad for your DC workout? A very artistic shot, please give the photographer our seal of approval from that point of view, however Rod, we’re looking at you but we’re seeing Jesus on the cross, who at this stage of his career wasn’t the most beefcakey of individuals. Perhaps we should be patient and wait for the final instalment and then pass judgement.

With it’s biblical flavour we might adopt the style for next years Christmas card …. always on the lookout for iconic festive images :)

    WoE,
that was taken in the evening when I am always scantily clad :)
Not after a DC workout just a few situps which I do as and when throughout the day and evening.

please give the photographer our seal of approval from that point of view
    Many thanks !
It’s another self portrait, hence the rather twisted appearance. I have to hold the camera at arms length with it pointing back to front etc avoiding getting my arm in blah blah !

The shot was taken in response to the suggestion that the existing one was now pretty out of date

I suspect I know the reason for your biblical feelings (and this is true) much of the lighting for the shot would have come from a candle which is the same as the Pope uses in his private apartment !

    Rod,

We marvel at your evening activities and no nonsense attitude towards attire, although won’t be adopting this policy ourselves …. not sure the Ramblers or local Hysterical Society are prepared for that :)

On the exercise front, a new gadget is winging its way to Coven HQ and we are terribly excited about it. The packaging assures success for executive working witches who dabble in the occasional gougere …. what it doesn’t include is a Pope candle. Cutting straight through the red tape we will email the Vatican pointing out this omission…

not adopting any policy I adopt :)

Don’t put your faith in false idols !
Lose the pasta, rice, pastry, potatos, chocolate, biscuits etc
Bread, only 2 slices of wholemeal a day
Get some free weights, do 2-300 sit ups a day
Take on plenty of fruit in the form of french grapes ;)
Walk great distances at every opportunity etc etc

The secret to my success :) is easy but it does help if you live on your own, have no job or responsibilities, tremendous self-will, self-belief and determination.
Possibly then it’s not so easy or indeed viable for some !

Anyhoo must dash, running late and extremely frustrated at having accidently deleted 45 minutes work writing a definitive post of identifying signed Ian Fleming books - I nearly wept !

Do the DC workout you know it makes sense !

    LW,
I didn’t get into size 10s by eating gougere every day ;)
It takes a couple of days to work off the hedonistic excess of a Tuesday so any more covenistic duties would be too much for me.
After all, I have to be ready lest they want to make another aero advert :)

    Witchlet,

Some of us felt you were too young to see such graphic images of our shy host …. make a note Witchlet never to drop by after 6, not even for a recreational poach from the Collins smallholding :) ….. speaking of the hallowed ground, we’ve yet to see photographic evidence of its continued growth since the great flood.

Will do, I’ll use my new Canon EOS 5D with EF 24-105mm USM lens kit with Canon Speedlite 430EX flash! On the way to your house I shall be listening to the new Motorhead double live CD ‘Better Motorhead than Dead’ recorded at the London Hammersmith during the 30th Anniversay Tour 2005 on the SPV record label. Just time for my Maximuscle ZMA washed down with PHD Synergy ISO before bed.
