The Ghost of Bolingbroke Castle

The Ghost of Bolingbroke Castle !
Legend has it that Bolingbroke Castle really is haunted.
An introduction to a new section

This marks the start of another new section - Lincolnshire Folklore and Myths. It will cover anything unusual, mystical, ghostly, unexplained - you name it !
I’ll do separate articles for each story or place so further information can then be added to that appropriate article and over time hopeful we’ll build up a complete picture of all that is mysterious in Lincolnshire.
If anybody has any suggestions of legends, incidents or places then please feel free to drop me an email.

Nothing is initially ruled in or out of this section, it doesn’t have to be ancient and can be virtually anything which would be regarded as esoteric.
I should add that I shall be writing these articles seriously, there will be no mocking tone or opinion as to veracity.
Whether or not you believe the things that may appear in this new section are entirely a matter for the individual.
What I will say is that they will be both interesting and informative.

The Haunted Hare of Bolinbroke Castle
From 1660
“One thinge is not to be passed by, affirmed as a certaine trueth by the inhabitants of the town upon their owne knowledge, which is that the Castle is haunted by a certaine spirit in the lilcenesse of a hare”

me at the site of the apparition
Apparently the ghost of a witch who was once held at the castle. I have to say having visited The Castle Many Times I thought there would be a veritable plethora of mystery and ghostly tales surrounding the site’s blood-soaked history.
Initially though this is the only one I could find and is at least a bit different to a headless lady !
Nice also that it is one which has endured over centuries.

You’ll see to the left a picture of me actually at the site of the apparitions !

If you know of anything else which is out-of-the-ordinary at this place then please do leave a comment
Many Thanks

Please report or suggest other Lincolnshire myths and legends here - many thanks

I have been to Old Bolingbroke Castle on numerous occasions and have yet to witness anything untoward. The closest i came to evil spirits was while i was checking out the castle garderobes!!!!!
