The Dangers of Blogging and Social Network Sites

Blogging, MySpace, Facebook, Bebo etc Are All Great Fun But Do Take Care …
They can turn round and bite you !

A voice known to billions got fired from her job this week. She is the woman who does the voices of the London Underground i.e. “Mind the Gap” etc
Why ?
Well, she has a website and thought it would be funny to post some amusing spoof announcements such as:

We would like to remind our American tourist friends that you are almost certainly talking too loudly

After hearing of these her employers sacked her !

Another recent incident involved the Bebo website so beloved of teenagers.
For those unaware you can build your own webpage, chat etc all free of charge, a huge social network.

A 14 girl was talking about how great her recent party was and about them all having alcohol to drink.
This was seen by another parent who reported it to the police which led to the arrest of the girls parents for illegally supplying alcohol to minors !

Here’s another involving MySpace, again a social networking site.

Whilst messaging about homework one kid complained that their printer cartridge was empty.
The other told her she would give her a new one tomorrow.
I can’t afford one at the moment, I have to buy them myself was the reply.
Don’t worry about it, my mum gets them from work !

You guessed it, the employer sees it and dismisses her from, her office job !

One final one:

A high flying female lawyer gets a provisional job offer from a big corporate firm.
As part of Human Resource background checks such as references etc they now run Google searches on potential employees.
Bingo they got a hit !
A few years ago whilst on holiday the woman won a wet t-shirt contest in a bar. The picture was on their website and the job offer was withdrawn as she was deemed to have an unsuitable image !

So there you go, be very careful what you put on the internet, it may come back to haunt you.
If you have children make sure you know what they are putting on their websites, they’ll almost certainly have one if not several - you have been warned !
Rod

PS: Can you imagine if I applied for a job and they Googled me

That is believing that anyone would want to employ you in the first place!

Think the last one was a little harsh, shows her fun side

    that’s a little harsh - I think I have the makings of a good burger flipper :)
I too thought it harsh, quite why she was deemed good enough for the job then not so because she had a great night out some years before seems crazy to me!

Purely homemade, organic burgers i hope.

One must comment on the lack of posts on your site. You are maybe more viewed than the Spice Girls, but your topics are obviously not thrilling people at the moment.

no the Big M I’m afraid, £5.20 an hour it’s the best I could get :(

It’s easy to thrill some of the people some of the time but not easy to thrill all of the people all of the time :)

What does your taste in music convey to the opposite sex? By April Masini, Read on:

    Classic rock.
“If a guy likes classic rock, he’s going to be very middle of the road,” “This isn’t a bad thing—in fact, classic-rock listeners make great partners. They go for the normal things in life, like dinner and a film,
And what about a girl who likes ’70’s hair bands? “She’s in denial of the aging process and may have general image issues,” “Be prepared for a lot of ‘Oh, you look fantastic’ pep talks throughout the relationship.”

    Heavy metal.
“Watch out for hidden anger issues,” “Most guys who are into heavy metal aren’t necessarily tattooed and pierced; they may just as well be suited and coiffed.
You may be surprised in bed, in a good or a bad way.”
“She hates her parents, and if you’re a nice guy, she’ll hate you, too.

    Country.
“If a guy likes country music,” “chances are that he’s sentimental and romantic. He’s got a moral compass and clear ideas of what’s right and what’s wrong. He also knows that breaking hearts, and getting them broken”
And what about women who favour this kind of music? “She’s a good girl from the heartland, so you’re not getting any action anytime soon,”

    Classical.
Take it from your writer: Everyone knows that single guys with huge classical music collections (especially ones featuring Arturo Toscanini) are uncommonly smart, sensitive, and good you-know-where.
Single women who like classical music tend to be very smart.

    Jordan,
    I’m obviously heavy metal \m/
I don’t have hidden anger issues and I’ll smack anyone in the mouth who says I do :)
No tats or piercings hopefully puts me in the well turned out category.
Whether that’s well turned out in an complete sense or just when compared to a Hell’s Angel I’m not sure

As to being a surprise in bed that’s spot on. The unlucky lady is likely to find something long and hard prodding her in the back …
That’ll be the neck of my Steve Vai Ibanez Guitar which I take to bed every night :)

Great info and thankfully I fit into a good category, who’ll put their hands up to country music !
    Many thanks

    Jordan,

The more we go down this road, the more we get dissolutioned about poor old Rod. Have you seen that tv show about arranged partners? The host gets all their friends and family gathered and then we all have to find possible dates…. all we can offer is Bob the builder or Crusher, a nice girl but hardly fits his aforementioned check/chick list :)

    WoE

    p.s. my money’s on Bob so far…
