The Best Way to Drive in the Snow ~ al la Kimi

I awoke and rose this morning at 6.30am full of the joys of Spring - on opening the curtains however and seeing that mysteriously a carpet of snow had fallen in the night I was reminded it was still Winter :(
As I needed to wheel the Goldeneye Chariot out of the stables today I thought it best to look for information on
The Best Way to Drive in the Snow and who better to show me than . . .

The Iceman Kimi Räikkönen now, he knows a thing or two about driving, being a former Formula One World Champion, but then again so do I remember my guide to driving an automatic in the snow ?

Conventional wisdom would be to slow down, avoid untreated roads - especially those in rural areas and steer clear of potential obstacles - sound ideas !
However, even though the UK grinds to a halt with 2 centimetres of snow other countries can manage - some can even manage to drive in it.
Witness Kimi Raikkonen who is learning to be a rally driver - awesome !
You need to turn your sound up to appreciate it !

Your brain can’t really be wired up right to drive like that - it requires surely something other than skill - no sense of fear and complete confidence.

Your host made his journey without any problems and in a slightly more relaxed way than Kimi and now finds himself thankfully safe, sound and warm in the bracing comfort of Goldeneye Towers.
I’ll be continuing my historical research in much the same way I’ve been doing the last few days whilst waiting for the bloody post office to arrive with my Sabaton Hoodie from Germany

If you’ve got anything with Royal Mail at the moment don’t worry if it appears to be a week late - that’s the service nowadays !
Hope you enjoyed the video - if you didn’t tough - at least you didn’t have to pay for it :)
Frostily and Hoodielessly Yours

    Rod,
Good stuff, rather him than me though. Suprised he made the move to be honest.

    Hi Rod,

I thought that entry into the ‘pits’ was truly pathetic - where was the 90mph approach, slap back into 3rd, hard hand brake while fast snap to the left, leaving an arc of snow as a slowly descending curtain? Nowhere! :-)

Ye gods! Kimi has a death wish! And truly impressive. You are right about the brain wiring. A friend was on the verge of making the big-time in the Grand Prix Motorcycle world, until an accident(!) slowed him that fraction of a second - but still there is that wild enthusiastic glint in the eye, almost maniacal, and quite different from other slower folk. I’m sure TE Lawrence would have possessed it, too.

Yours in a quite mild summer,

    Donald.

    Donald,
there’s snow on the ground here and it’s bloody freezing - so enough with the summer stuff :)

I saw Kimi once approaching an accident at a Grand Prix - smoke and debris everywhere. The track was two car widths wide - he put his foot down and went through at 200 mph - blind !
The onboard footage showed all he could see was smoke and he knew there was a car wreck.
He later said he relied on the fact that the other driver would have tried not to be on the racing line so he took it at full throttle
300 man points for that !

I too knew someone who raced bikes, he had exactly that look in his eye - unhinged when sat on a bike - normal in real life
