Stop the Bus I Wanna Get Off !

It seem like only a few days since I was reflecting on how easy and stress free life was - well they say a week is a long time in politics … god knows how long a week is in the life of your host

Firstly, my sincerest apologies to all those regular return viewers for the lack of posting.
It’s like this …
Firstly my main computer gets a massive malware attack. All sorts of things were tried to rectify in the end I simply decided to buy a new computer.
That done I am now having modem problems, software clashes with Vista etc etc
This is being typed on my back up laptop as the new machine cannot even connect to the internet yet !

Add to that I take my car in for a service and the report back means they need it for 2 days :(
I hope to get it back today but the Goldeneye coffers will take a bath to the tune of £800

Add to that the cost of a router and 10 minutes ago the postie rubbed salt into the already gaping and festering Goldeneye wounds by delivering a quarterly electricity bill and you can readily see, if not even sympathize a little (only a little) with, your hosts stressful situation.

So there we go my friends the SS Goldeneye is not so much travelling through stormy waters but is floundering on the rocks !
I hope to refloat her and, to continue the nautical theme, stop spending money like a drunken sailor !

My apologies once again and normal service, such as it is, will be resumed asap
Cheers
Stressed Out Rod

    Rod,

All hopes of your finding a stimulating and exhausting woman have failed again…. might have known it was a computer malfunction :) Still, looking on the bright side you are not ill and the Goldeneye kitchen garden will be enjoying this balmy weather. As for the coffers well what can we say, it’s going the same way as all the coffers…. the Coven is expecting a national debt situation when the cauldron cooking facilities are modernised.

Just as well you are a good saver, all those wads of money stuffed under the Goldeneye Barts will come in useful now :)

    WoE

p.s. glad you’re not poorly sick, we were on the brink of sending around a scouting party with our latest heal-all potion….. lucky escape! So far we haven’t managed a healing balm for the wallet, still it’s better to be happy and poor, keeping you grounded and focused :)

I’m not sure if it’s installed correctly plus I need the latest aol disc.
Have requested a disc from aol and will go out looking for one tomorrow in order to speed things up !

I was unable to load photoshop 7 as it doesn’t work with Vista :(
Not to worry I only use PS7 for all my book scanning, images, ebay, websites and this blog etc
Thanks for all the help Craig - I owe you a drink !
    Cheers

I don’t want tospoil things for you but BM and Benz tend to give you a year off every now and then - last year mine cost me 89p - one rear light bulb (should be lamp not bulb - you plant bulbs in the garden)

You can download AOL from here

    http://info.aol.co.uk/downloads/

The only installation the router should need is plugging the network cable in, wait til it assigns an IP address and then use Internet Explorer to log in and set it up for AOL.

Did the AOL help guy not talk you through it?

    Rod,
I may have forgotten to mention a couple of brake pipes are in need of replacing, but it could have been worse.

Concerning Photoshop 7 and Vista. People report various success and failures. Some things to try.

1 - Reinstall by putting in CD, right-click on the exe, and select (install as admin)

2 - Start Menu>Photoshop (right-click and select properties)>Security>allow Everyone Full Control (second suggestion may require switching off User Access Control which I wouldn’t advise)

Alternatively if thats all you do (btw does your scanner work with Vista?) with PS7 then might I recommend

    http://www.irfanview.com/

which is in my humble opinion the best graphics tool available for Windows and it’s free.

I have changed the netgear router and am just waiting for an AOL disc. Been to evry plav=ce in town and nobody dishes them out any more.
Even Carphone Warehouse who are partnered with them don’t have a broadband disc !
They will give me a free laptop if I go to AOL but they don’t have a CD

Photoshop will be sorted with a new version I think
Spooky with the scanner - just tried to load the software this morning and it doesn’t work.
Good news is Frontpage and Publisher work as does the software for my new camera (that was a concern)
I cannot really sort everything out until I get it online.
    Hopefully soon
Thanks for all the help and tips Craig - others will also appreciate who find this page
    Cheers

Carphone Warehouse own AOL in the UK, so it’s a little disconcerting that they don’t have a disc, although you don’t need AOL software to get online using AOL Broadband.

Once the router is setup, which is done via Internet Explorer, it will allow any browser to access the internet.

Am at a loss as to why the AOL ‘tech’ support haven’t already helped you to configure the router.

Awesome site here with AOHell networking help.
