Some Current Ebay Rip Off Auctions
Regulars here are no stranger to dodgy book auctions and as there is a veritable cornucopia out there ot choose from I though I would just do a quick round up of the first edition section on the UK site
There are plenty of fake signed Harry Potter books so I simply selected the ‘best one’

To add to those, just in the highlight gallery alone:
A set of Ted Smart book club editions being sold as original first editions
The now weekly:
True 1st edition Philosopher’s Stone - This is a TRUE first edition
Unfortunately it’s not a hardback first edition but an 18th edition paperback - close though!
On the Ian Fleming front
First edition From Russia with Love - a book club edition actually
The Man with the Golden Gun, rare true first issue with title all on one line on half title page, as called for.
Morons !
Agatha Christie Rare First Edition in Original dust jacket
Turns out to be a reprint in a photocopy of an original dustwrapper
Conan Doyle 1st Edition !
scroll down half a mile to see (stated second impression) a reprint then !
And finally this one, some extracts:
Handwritten Copy of His Will 1968
This is his actual will
Hand-Signed by Howard Hughes. Three Handwritten pages
A typed letter from Howard Hughes
What an incredible item……..
Then tucked away at the bottom
All pages are photocopies

Ebay - When is Ring Not a Ring ! said,

” When is a Ring Not a Ring ”
That is the Question ?
Thursday am nice and happy in ebay land a 5p listing day ! Great I can work like a navvy spend £50
on listing fees and make a fiver !
Only two non paying bidders so far this week and pay pals on the blink !.
” Time for a fag and a cuppa.
That all done and its back to ebay.
Only to rec. a Question for Seller via the ebay system !
Please read …… on
” Hope this email finds you well.
Unfortunately I have a ‘honour’ bidding system with some friends, If they bid its off-limits to me–the first in the field has the run of the ball!
This is what happened with this particular item above, on which I would have loved to bid otherwise.
An indication that you might have similar items, may make me keep a more vigilant outlook,”
So there you go ,
Basically he is in a bidding ring and another member of the ring got there first .
He then has the nerve to disclose this vie ebay question for seller and then ask me to let him know about
similar and forthcoming auctions.
…….. and the “….ole of the week award goes to !
Even better for all you out there who get, and are involved in auction rings, No need to worry as I quote
” I have a ‘honour’ bidding system with some friends ”
So there you go No more sleepless nights for you boy’s as it is a thing of HONOUR you are involved in !

A good point, we all knnow it goes on.Unusual for someone to admit it though.
With regard to ‘real’ auctions, and to be blatantly honest - do we know of any auction that DOES NOT have a ring operating?
Honour is an interesting term for operating a ring, especially given that it is illegal!
You could find yourself up in front of Your Honour

Hello All. I have to state that I have had a 30% rip off rate with my purchases from ebay sellers, this includes both private and then dealer (pawnshops I think). I have since quit deal on Ebay completely. Too many liars there. Craigs list is a far better way to go. At least there you can choose the local and if its a big ticket item you can go and see it.

Hi Keith
thanks for the comment and welcome to the site.
Your experience speaks volumes and explains why sellers such as myself don’t bother with it either - no customers !
Is it any wonder it’s spiralling downward ?
Regards
Rod
