Six Out of Ten of Us Are Crooks

A recent and wide-ranging survey has found the 6 out of 10 of us admit to acts of dishonesty !

This is proof positive of a theory I have long held, most of us are hypocrites where the law is concerned !
We choose to obey or break the laws that suit us.
We justify this by pretending it’s only a minor infraction and not a ‘real’ crime - this is nothing but hypocrisy !

Deciding for ourselves what is and is not right or just to what level breaking the law is socially acceptable is ridiculous.
Some of the worst offenders in society genuinely believe they have done nothing wrong !
Having our own sliding moral scale relies on the morality of an individual rather than overall generally accepted forms of behavior.

Something is either legal or illegal - consequently right or wrong

Much dishonesty is inherent in out way of life - hence we don’t blink an eye to certain forms of theft.
The vast majority of us would not shoplift, pick pockets or commit burglary - however …

How many office workers buy paper clips
    How many electricians buy cable
    How many builders buy cement
How many car mechanics buy oil
    etc etc etc

If you add to the 60% of self-confessed hardened crooks those that did not admit it - the figure must surely rise.
Now consider this …
How many of us are stopped from committing crimes for fear of getting caught or the punishment outweighing the potential gain ?
Quite a few I would suggest !
I personally watch my speed when motoring for fear of a speeding ticket.
I don’t avoid income tax - not because I’m righteous and civic minded but because the cost to me is less than the worry of being caught.
Factor that into the equation and that leaves basically nobody - we’re all a bunch of blaggards.
Is there anybody out there that is truly honest ?
