Should We Reintroduce Wolves Into the UK

There is some momentum behind a scheme to reintroduce wolves into the United Kingdom

Wolves were eliminated from this country over 250 years ago. They were gradually hunted to extinction by farmers concerned for their livestock. Their reintroduction into Scotland is based around the need to control the deer population. The deer population now stands at some 500,000 which, apparently, needs controlling and culling due to the damage being done to trees and vegetation.

Personally, I think it’s an awesome idea !
There are great environmental reasons for it, so in today’s climate (pun intended) that’s probably enough.
Add to that the sheer delight and tourist value of actually seeing wolves wild in this country.

The only downside will be farmers whining - but they whine about everything so who cares what they say !
Bring them on - not only in Scotland but England, particularly Lincolnshire, as well

Wolves - Canis (dog) lupus (wolf)” were first domesticated 12,000 + years ago, so lets not forget had it have not been for
Wolves none of us would have had Man’s best friend - the Dog, which are of course related to Wolves.
I think in a controlled environment a pack would be a wonderful sight.

We have a lot of charities and organisations which do good work for the Bear, Lion and every other animal you can think of so why not
    the Wolf - Wolves.

There are thought to be - 3,000,000 Wolfdogs - commonly called wolf hybrids in America alone.
wolfdogs are simply a cross between a domestic dog and a wolf

Some of the scientific background to this story

The researchers used computer analysis based on a reintroduction of 3 wolf packs on the Isle of Rum. 25 years following, the wolves would amount to 150 per 1000sqkm, then drop back to 20 per 1000sqkm as pack sizes evened themselves out

The scientific report was first published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society

What with maverick panthers and packs of wolves, you’ll become the Howard Hughes of Wybers Wood….. better get tesco home delivery sorted out before it’s too late!

Inspired by this news story, I intend to ‘upgrade’ the somewhat lacklustre wildlife selection currently available for viewing whilst walking along the nature trails near my house.

I suspect the, possibly mythical, panther and the all too real introduction of the Goldeneye wolf pack may have an impact on some of the domestic animals around the area but they need thinning out anyway.

When my crocodile eggs have incubated I shall be improving the eco system of the River Freshney as well.

It’s all sounding like another Grand Plan fermenting !

you are a font of Lincolnshire knowledge ! Who’d have thought that your spamming web page building would have been so educational.

I hope the above is original high quality content and not cut & paste ;)

On a serious note, thanks for the quality content.

    Rod,

You are no doubt hoping that these criters won’t bite the hand that feeds them, but with your luck ……. Perhaps it’s a good thing there’s not much of you and that subsequently the crocs will find a more substantial meal to roll and drag under!

We’ve got a herd of wilderbeest on the coven estate which could easily be driven towards Wybers Wood for grazing and provide alternative snacks for the crocs after the ‘locals’ have been thinned out.

Your property will need modification along the lines of Tree Tops so you can keep a careful watch on activity at the waterhole. We look forward to seeing you in full safari gear, including the dreaded shorts!

WoE ….. we had a farm in Africa at the foot of the ……. cue the music

I have already ordered a safari suit and pith helmet though felt, for obvious sartorial reasons, unable to go as far as short trousers.
For those unaware, shorts on the male species are to be avoided for reasons of style and taste. The main exceptions are, sportsmen, young children, Bart Simpson and possibly, just possibly, those native to the other side of the equator and then only for climatic necessity.

The crocs hold no fear for me WoE, part of the reason for their introduction is so that I can pit the newly honed and finely chiselled Goldeneye body against them in underwater wrestling bouts - may the best slimy creature win !

Now’t to do with wolves. It’s just that you mentioned The Simpsons - shudder, it pains me to type it! Please someone tell me that I am not the only person in the world who cannot stand that mind bogglingly, aggravating, nauseating, aaaaagghhh programme that is always on at meal times. I guess this may be an unpopular outburst but I make no apology!

Needless to say,on this matter, I stand alone in my household!

It works on many different levels, some surprisingly deep

    LB,

If it’s excitement you’re after, then look no further than the new Big Game Reserve at Wybers Wood. The first of the exhibits are due to arrive any day now …. a crate of water voles and a T Rex. Wonder what T Rex tempura tastes like …. we should know before too long as the vicious water voles hunt him down!

    Hi Lb,
“Not much” - the night-life in the village seems to have died off,
not even a game of bingo in the village hall!.
I may take up bird watching, making model boats or some other hobby to fill my time, I shall give it some thought.

    ARB,

If you find yourself looking for tea and a bun, why not try the Tuesday Club in Horncastle where all rich and handsome men are welcome ! In future you will be able to drive over with LB …. after we’ve drafted the following letter …..

    Dear Commander in Chief

    WELFARE OF HEAD CHEF

It has come to our attention that young Mr Collins is not allowed out to play on Tuesdays. On the face of it, that would not matter but the Tuesday Club in Horncastle (particularly one awkward member) is unwilling to change it’s weekly parliamentary meetings to any other day. As Mr Collins works so hard would it not be fair to give him Sunday, Monday and Tuesdays off so he could join the debate? After all he would be doing Branston a favour by giving certain of its senior citizens a ride out now and again.

Our suggestion would be to advertise a gourmet bangers and mash night every Tuesday and let the Kitchen Cadets sort it out.

If you would like any further suggestions as to how to run your fine establishment, please do not hesitate to contact the Witches.

    Yours faithfully

    WoE
p.s. by the way, he would like Saturdays off as well to accommodate his hectic social life.

Anything you would like to add?

Are these essential requirements to visit Horncastle, or is there some flexibility ?
any chance you could perhaps bend the rules for an elderly gentleman such as myself.
