Should I Write a Book
I’ve often wondered whether or not to have a go at writing a book and with the onset of winter, and man-flu, now could be the right time !
I don’t have the temerity or audacity to think there is a great work of literature inside me just bursting to come out - far from it.
I just wonder whether it is an itch I should scratch or not.
It is already a strange feeling when I stop to think about my various websites, literally millions of people have already read things I have written - quite incredible.
Presupposing I were to do it there is one advantage - self-publishing with the likes of Lulu and CafePress etc has never been easier, or cheaper, so I could at least guarantee seeing it in book form.
I suppose the obvious questions are:
-
Is it worth bothering ?
What would be the subject matter ?
Could I actually do it to a standard acceptable to myself ?
Would anyone ever want to read it ?
It would have to be a work of fiction, I’m too dumb to write a factual piece of work.
I’m also leaning toward the detective fiction genre with a nice series character
Who Knows ? or indeed Whodunit !

Rod, of course it’s worth bothering, what could be more rewarding than creating something original, entertaining and make you friends wherever you’re read? That’s why books will last forever! Go for it

Dino,
creating something original and entertaining could be the rub !
I could also create enemies, especially amongst those with literary taste, rather than friends.
Either way if I go for I’ll expect it to be readily available at all good bookshops throughout Lincolnshire !

Why not, you could use all your experience that you gained during your worldly travels and the people you have met along the way as characters.

Rod,
A modern day version of ‘Bleak House’ perhaps?!

LB
feels like Bleak House here what with being struck down with something akin to consumption !

Rod,
We’re surprised at you… haven’t you taken one of LB’s influenza halting hot beverages? Don’t tell us you haven’t any lemongrass in your pantry!
Anyway to the book … yes what an excellent idea, but if you do decide to include characters from your worldly travels, we must warn you that the Witches better be depicted as glamorous (we don’t mind eccentric) and wise or our latest book … Guide to Lincolnshire’s Hottest Men may be edited at short notice

I doubt I would draw on personal experience for characters - even a work of fiction has to be believable
