Should I Get Married ?
As a confirmed bachelor I am now thinking perhaps I should settle down !
Goldeneye is minded to become a family man
Perhaps it’s the carving of Sunday lunch or just advancing years but I am wondering whether I should settle down !!!!
Should I have a wife or live in partner ?
Should I start a family ?
Is it too late to start one, if so how about a ready-made one ?
The pitfalls have all been discussed here before as have the potential dangers but if other people seem happy enough to do it why shouldn’t I ?
Is life too short not to commit to something or somebody ?
Am I missing out on a lot ?
I notice already that this post contains a lot of questions rather than statements but relinquishing the honorary title of the Most Eligible Bachelor on Wybers Wood is not to be undertaken lightly.
I imagine regular readers used to the humorous undertone of most of the site content will be thinking ‘what’s he on about now’ but I am actually thinking along these lines.
Where is the path of life taking me and should I be walking it alone ?
It does throw up the practical question of actually getting a suitable wife or partner, the semantics of which need to be addressed - any suggestions always appreciated by the way.
I’ve lived a life that has accelerated beyond its years and I found myself some time ago in a place a good 25 years too early. I have lived, technically died, worked for 20 years then set up a business then sort of retired - is that it now !
Having done and experienced most things in life there is but one real thing I have not been
A Family Man !
Is it time to take the plunge and live a normal life ?

Rod,
We would like to help but alas all the Coven singles have had the same idea as you and finally found a mate. It’s basically the same old chestnut, do we send you out on a mission or will it be through personal introduction?
The Coven courtyard awaits the nuptial party… the screaming baby stage is another matter for which we’ll offer sound advice at a distance

I’m not sure how difficult it will be to actually find a wife. I’m told men in my position and ‘willing to commit’ are scarce at the moment - perhaps that might help overcome the more obvious obstacles I have !
I cannot imagine any issue of mine screaming, it would be very well behaved I’m sure.
This parenting carry on is not as difficult as I was once lead to believe !

Rod,
We take it that you will seek expert assistance from the Savile Row tailors for an occasion such as this? Naturally the whole Tuesday Philosophical Society will be with you as you take this huge step… a bespoke suit is a serious business
We see no reason why the gang can’t supply all your needs for the big day itself including a proxy minister, catering will be down to LB and the Witches and the honeymoon very likely in one of the gangs holiday residences (bathroom optional!). Of course normal weddings dictate the bridesmaids follow the bride but in this case it’ll be the reverse… don’t think there’s any danger of being too conventional
We look forward to some good news on the nuptials front.

Rod,
Mr. Collins had the right idea, if I can’t match his achievement then I’ll not bother, as my training partner likes to tell me every other afternoon at the gym “You don’t know how lucky you are”-oh yes I do!!

Important as the right garb is for the big day an actual bride is more of a pressing concern at present. I may go into town shortly and see what’s kicking about !
I won’t make any big assumptions as I did last year on the get a date in under 2 hours jaunt, I’ll leave that to posterity and not risk tarnishing the record

you echo my old thoughts - but times change - we have to move on.
There is a woman out there with my name on her and my mission is, should I choose to undertake it, to find her and bring her back to the Goldeneye Cave.
Wish me luck old chap and in the words of a great adventurer
I’m going out and may be some time
Cheers

After reading and commenting on many of your blog’s i feel that you are a very confused man!
You hate: commitment, noise, children, work, socialising, cats, most sports, going out….. do i need to carry on?!
So now are going to change everything about yourself, you are a man, this is not possible!

Jordan,
confused could well be a good description but your list does me a few injustices.
Perhaps the time has come to commit
I’m not adverse to working
I like socialising - in the right company
And I like going out to places worth going …
But you are correct changes would be the order of the day but then what’s wrong with change - all things are possible !
Regards

Jordan and LB,
Yes it came as a surprise to us too but there it is and here we go again this time all hands on deck to find him a match before he’s past his best… doubtless a questionable point! Anyway the Coven’s all out of candidates so alas we can’t help the boy now, like Mowgli he’s all alone out in the jungle

Shock indeed! Think of all the broken hearts along the way because he didn’t want to commit to things etc.
He could have had his socks darned and his veggy patch sown for him. But then there probably would’t be a vegetable patch. In it’s place would be a football net or a net ball net.

Jordan,
He’s obviously had an epiphany. It’s probably worth standing by for the next epiphany incase there’s a complete about turn. By the time his future intended checks out his various sites, she could be forgiven for getting entirely the wrong message unless of course she looks like Pammie and is very understanding of the male condition. Our guess is that we’ll have to keep her away from the sites until the famous Collins charm has had time to do it’s thing… so a bit like a Brian Rix farce really
Suppose Rod is testament to the fact that men start to mature in their forties but then women should know this by now and prepare themselves accordingly…like a rare orchid, the flowering of Rod’s maturity may be brief

p.s. do you think this has anything to do with the mobile balcony? Just the other day we overheard him chuntering something like …. ’shall I compare thee to a summer’s day’

There will be more girls thanking their lucky stars they had a near miss rather than lamenting the outcome I suspect
I take your point though, perhaps I’ve come to the game too late !
I guess I’ve had my chances - perhaps I deserve no more !

Two words I never thought to see together !
My potential partner need not look like Pammie - I’m not that shallow, nor indeed in a position to insist on such things, if I was I probably would though
I could use some good press - if you could manage it
The future Mrs Goldeneye could be reading this !

Rod,
I could use some good press - if you could manage it … you’re right you know, we should look at this from a marketing point of view, so…
Now ladies work with us on this and try to imagine Rod as a back yard. In this world there are yards where dustbins are kept, a sort of forgotten space and then there are yards that are just jaw-droppingly fabulous. Then again, there are the kind that are unique and interesting and worth the effort. Decorated to a high standard throughout, this yard will always look like a class above the rest - just needs the right woman to appreciate it. We don’t mind you moving in and looking after Rod as long as he is still able to grace us with his irreplaceable presence on Tuesday mornings at the Philosophy Club.

p.s. How’s that for starters?
