Sebastian Faulks to Write the New James Bond book
The identity of the writer of the new 007 novel has been announced.
As previously reported here, new James Bond book, a well known author had agreed to write a new James Bond adventure to celebrate the centenary of Ian Fleming.
I had a few guesses but never thought it would be someone of the calibre of Sebastian Faulks !
The book is titled “Devil May Care” and is due to be published on 28 May 2008 the 100th anniversary of Ian Fleming’s birth.
This is quite a result for Ian Fleming Publications, whilst new 007 novels are nothing new they have not really achieved a great deal in the form of literary plaudits.
John Gardner and Raymond Benson are responsible for most of the ‘official’ books previously, even Kingsley Amis had a go, under the pseudonym Robert Markham, when he wrote Colonel Sun.
They are all collectable but, it has to be said, not hugely popular with the general reading public. This new venture could change all of that as Sebastian Faulks has a huge following in his own right.
The Fleming books, on recent re reading, showed poorly in my opinion, the early ones especially, very poorly written - sez me of course !
Here at Goldeneye we wait with the proverbial baited breath and expect to have a signed first edition with a bit of luck and once read will report back with a full review - I know you all can’t wait 
I wonder how many of you out there have actually read an Ian Fleming novel ?

Read all the Bond novels but detest the ones written by Raymond Benson!
