Save Money on Renewals

If you’re looking to renew anything annual it pays to wait a while after getter the renewal notice.

Last week I received a renewal notice for the RAC (motoring roadside breakdown cover) for the grand sum of £122.
Frankly, more interesting things have held my attention so it has not been renewed, add to that it seemed like more than enough money for some reason.

6.30 pm tonight the phone rings:

Hello, Mr Collins ?

Yes

I’m *********** from the RAC, I am calling to ask if you got your renewal notice last week

Yes I did

Is there any problem Mr Collins, you’re cover runs out at the end of May

Yes it struck me as being too expensive

Let me assure you it’s great value your pack offers … blah blah blah

It may be good value but that does not make it cheaper

Let me see what you paid last year … You paid £112 last year Mr Collins

I’m surprised I went off at that much !

As you can see it’s only gone up £10 which isn’t bad as increases and pay rises go Mr Collins

I don’t get a pay rise, anyway I’m sure the AA is about £100 …

Just let me see what I can do … Oh! good news Mr Collins how does £99.95 sound ?

A great deal better - I’ll just get my card

Excellent (drumming fingers together)
Another step further away from the poor-house

What a great morning for a stroll, you can just go off the beaten track and take in the views, it puts a smile on your face for the day! :-)

There may be grey skies but I only see blue!

    Collins Jnr

Has SC needed hospital attention after falling off his chair in laughter?

He is very quite of late, are his half pig sandwiches getting to much for him?

    Rod,
Could have done with your electrical expertise tonight when my eighteen refrigerators, hot lamps, kitchen lights and extraction system went off in the middle of a fifty cover dinner service. Still, the famous Collins boys backbone and never say die spirit kept the ship afloat and stirred it to calmer waters in the forty five degree heat.
On sunday I shall tell you what I have learnt about phases, circuit boards and the like-prepared to be confused!

after you’ve told me about all matters electrical I shall tell you of my new patented way of cooking broccoli - sounds like it will all end in a punch-up

    FF,
I got one for 10p last year !
Whilst that is impressive, it does cause problems this year as it equates to a 300% increase in expenditure.

The strict Goldeneye budget does allow for some increase, and indeed diminution, in expenditure but this latitude does not extend to anything like 300% !

Economies will have to be made !

    Femme Fatale,
Once tight, always tight. He once sent me a card that I’d sent him the year before with my writing concealed with tip-ex. I shall be costing the card and gift(s) carefully this year as an indicator for next year’s ‘biggy’-I’m twenty one.

    WoE,
Many thanks, Witches-very kind. I shall be collecting gifts from the Collins clan in the morning though I expect it to be a thin do regarding Big Brother. You may remember I penned the nickname ‘Redeye’ for him some months ago, well that has come back to bite me in the nether regions as I am sporting a particularly unsightly red eye at the moment. I expect a mixture of fussing, worrying and general hysterical laughing when I arrive at the Old Folks Home.
No prizes for guessing who will be laughing!

    Enjoy.

    Femme Fatale,
Many thanks for the kind message. There was indeed hysterical laughter at the lunch table, thanks to Mr.Collins aiming a killing broadside at Rod.
    An absolute classic.
