The New Site Artwork / Logo !
And a chance for you to use your observational skills

Regulars may remember an article (link further down) requesting an artist for a suitable piece of artwork to grace the site and perhaps even . . . find itself on promo merchandise

Well, that was a good 5 months ago, I’ve been actively searching during that period and the closest I got to was a tattooist who could draw it out for £500.
The problem there was I didn’t know how good it was going to be.
The other day I decided to try and flex my Photoshop skills and do a visual mock up to show to an artist who very kindly offered to help, well I got more and more carried away and it got better and better - some 5 odd hours later . . .

Rod Collins blog website Lincolnshire logo

The Rod Collins’ Website Logo :)

The image above includes loads of aspects associated with me and the site and the things I do and the topics on the site.
It was a hell of a game to do, I know many people think Photoshop is something magical and you just click buttons and wonderful things happen but believe me they don’t - there were a lot of very tricky aspects (the flag was a living nightmare) but overall I’m quite pleased.

Anyhoo, here’s your starter for ten . . .

I’ve done a lot of editing to the image , original Image and Artist Request Article Here . . . there are ten new things added - can you spot them

That’s 10 specific new things, not including the obvious website address, if you can spot one then please do leave a comment

Please, only one suggestion per person that way they won’t all get blown in one go and give others a chance.

Afterwards I’ll explain the rationale behind the image and all the aspects
Hope you all like it and approve - all being well it will be on the back of a hoodie within a week

Artistically yours,
Rod

P.S. Please, only one suggestion per person - thank you :)

    John,
he shoots he scores - I thought that may be the one that got missed, 25 Man Points for ultra-observation plus another 10 for recognizing the Motorhead skull.
    Thanks and regards,

    Rod,

short eared owl…” - thanks LB, I thought it was a ‘bat out of hell’ ;)

Have found all ten but I have to claim the glaringly obvious resurrection of frater Ellis in the nether dexter.

Nice work Rod; I’m sure Derek Riggs would approve!

’tis very clever indeed King Rod, but alas I believe that you have missed one very important detail

    wheres the hairy hat?

    and what about headstones?

  9. Rod said,

    February 13, 2012 @ 1:00 pm

    HH,
I did wonder about the hat but in the end went without as I’m usually seen without it !

    Headstone ??????

    Where’s your ‘change’ ?
You’ve missed potential Man Points and driving a French car you need all you can get :)

    Rod,

I was going to mention the changed artist’s initial, but as Professor Nev has done so, I’ll go for your wristwatch from the changes I see??? I was going to guess at the make and model, but I’m not completely sure & probably will be wrong so apologies in advance! (not a good thing to admit as OH is also a watch nut and I’m expected to know these things  I expect my Laco Flieger (clean A dial) has irradiated away all my commonsense - the lume can wake you up at night it’s so bright) Meanwhile, how come no guitars as I see both arm bands? ;)

I can just imagine how many hours of work this took you (and the many oaths cursing the wee evil gremlins that make photoshop work - or not!), well done on the excellent reworking!

    Kate,
    no changed artists initials.

Watch is spot on - Omegas of course - take 10 Chick Points !

No guitar as I don’t play any longer but the basis of the logo is a huge nod to the type of music I’v ebeen listening to for well over 3 decades now !

    Thanks and regards,

    Chris,
the Sabaton ‘S’ is a good spot, that and the Motorhead ones were the trickiest I thought.
    15 Man points for seeing it and a further 10 for knowing it’s a Sabaton S !
Thanks for the vote of confidence as well - it’s nice to know what other people think of it

    Rod,
    Fantastic piece of work.
I was also going to comment on the fetching hat but as it has already been covered I’ll have to ask if that could be part of Kirkstead Abbey ruins rising up towards the owl?

  19. Rod said,

    February 13, 2012 @ 7:30 pm

    Rev,
thanks you and congratulations for a big bonus spot - 10 Man Points for spotting it plus a bonus of 35 for correctly knowing it’s Kirkstead Abbey - I took the specific photo myself.
    Well played sir.

    Now that image reminds me….

” The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom
And though you fight to stay alive
    Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
    The evil of the thriller.”

That’s the lot really, rest obvious:
The additions to the original are

Short-Eared Owl - for wildlife photography and love of nature etc, plus Worlaby etc

Kirkstead Abbey - reflecting all that’s medieval, churches and of course potential missing monasteries

Camera - my love of photography

Hair - obviously to liken the image to me a little as I don’t have a shaven skull

Sunglasses - worn a lot when I’m out-and-about in the nice weather, most likely to be seen thus

Omega Wristwatch - the brand I love and wear, also that’s a James Bond Ltd Edition so another connection there

Lincolnshire Flag - Obvious and a big part of wanting this base image

Sabaton Logo - on my arm - a nice touch I thought

Motorhead Logo - also a nod to a band I’ve loved for over 3 decades

Ellis Penson’s Gravestone - a star on the site and a thread which helped formulate the site as it is today

So hopefully you can see how just so much of the above image covers both me, my interests and this site.
There’s the obvious war theme covering the military, the fact it’s old covering history, there’s the Grim Reaper covering churchyards, a medieval ruin, wildlife, photography and music !

All in all not a bad representative effort.
Many thanks to all who took part and you may be seeing more of this logo soon !
    Regards,
    Rod

Whoops! My mistake  I remembered it being a ‘D’, do take off some points and give me a D for being a Dimwit, I have to write stuff down to remember it these days Also for saying my Laco has a clean dial when I meant sterile, D’oh I think I was having a few senior moments yesterday!

I was going to say Omega as it reminded me of my Dad’s - he was an ex RN diver and always wore Seamasters, but I would have got a barracking for that if I’d been wrong - do you wear it with a Nato strap One or two sizes not wide enough a-la Connery in Goldfinger - according to OH the reason for this is in the novel… he’s read it, I haven’t for my sins

Mick - that song and famous video came to my mind as well! :)

    Kate

  29. Rod said,

    February 15, 2012 @ 6:50 am

    Kate,
it is a Seamaster, 007 Ltd edition, any possible loss of Chick Points now in abeyance :)
There is a special feature to the strap which allows it to open even wider so it will go over the cuff of a divers suit - there’s also a helium escape valve which I wouldn’t be without
