Robert Goddard Sucks ~ I Hate Him
Robert Goddard Sucks !
Not very nice I know, but I’ve been driven to say it !
But why do I hate this best-selling author . . .
Because he’s so damnably good - that why !
I’ve read at least half a dozen or so of his books and every one has been a belter. He crafts his books superbly well, characters all have real depth and plotting and story lines are of an incredibly high standard.
Trying to lay a plot out for a book myself has only heightened my admiration for his books, in fact it’s almost enough to make you give up !
Try reading Past Caring, it’s every bit as good as Sebastian Faulk’s Birdsong, in fact try reading anything that has Robert Goddard on the spine - I guarantee you’ll not be disappointed.
Last week saw an early night due to signing the pledge - I went up to bed in order to read at 10.30pm (the excitement of bachelor life
) and was still reading at 1.30am - I could not put the book down.
Anything that can thrill me for 4 hours in bed has to be recommended
Watching Quantum of Solace this week I had two thoughts:
1: What a brilliantly shot and produced action film
2: What a diabolically thin and poor script and story line
As they’ve got millions to spend I cannot understand why on earth they don’t get somebody like Robert Goddard, give him £1 million and get him to write a screenplay.
It’s also a mystery to me that with all the crappy films Hollywood churn out why they don’t buy the film rights to some of his books and turn them into films - they scream to be filmed or dramatized for TV in some way or another.
If you enjoy a good read I urge you to give him a go - if you do, or indeed are already familiar with his work, let us know what you think
Happy Reading
Rod

Yes, I started reading his books many years ago. I then lost interest but that’s great, because I have now been able to go back and read 5/6 books by him that I hadn’t read before. I have real trouble putting them down, I have got through five in just over two weeks.

Hi Tony,
thanks fo rthe comment and welcome to the site - hope you’ll return.
I’m reading Beyond Recall at the moment and I too cannot put it down, in fact quite literally I had to force myself to stop reading only 5 minutes ago !
I’ll be gutted when I finish his whole back catalogue
All the best

Rod,
Just to show we do listen to you sometimes, we decided to read Closed Circle by Mr Goddard… and yes it is good. We’ll give you our verdict when we’ve read the whole thing.

WoE
you’re showing wisdom beyond your years
A very wise choice. Set in Stone is a belter - try that one as well.
