Red Hill Nature Reserve
Red Hill Nature Reserve Lincolnshire
This basic post has been sat in drafts awaiting being written up for a couple of months at least - the onset of winter means it’s a good time to remind myself of the summer which now seems long since passed
Red Hills, as we used to call it when I was a boy, was a regular haunt for us as a family. I remember vividly how my brother and I used to explore the hills and the quarry area, beans and sausages cooked by my father over a calor gas camping stove - I swear nothing ever tasted finer !

Looking Out Over Lincolnshire
It’s easy to say we look back with rose-tinted glasses, and of course I know we do, but this was, and indeed still is, something of a special place. As a family we were out and about at every opportunity afforded to us within my father’s work schedule. Is it simply coincidence that I now enjoy my days out so much . . . I think not.
I owe my parents a great deal, I’d owe them a lot more if I could get on and inherit but perhaps it’s tactless to rush these things
, and the love of a day out rather than a day in watching TV brings about a sense and level of well-being and satisfaction that cannot be calculated.
Red Hill Nature Reserve
Some background on the area is essential but I hope you’ll forgive the lack of it as I’ve been in the middle of something that can only be seen as a computer mystery. I spent hours trying to chase faults, viruses or whatever yesterday as I found myself only able to visit certain websites ! It was though I had no internet connection when trying to access some sites yet it worked perfectly on others - nightmare !
That’s the reason there was no post yesterday - my apologies.
If you’re passing or near to Red Hills then when not give it a look around.
If you’ve been or know anything about it please do leave a comment and share the knowledge and experience - thank you
How to get there ~ Directions Take the A153 out of Louth on the way to Horncastle. Turn right to Raithby then follow that road to Goulceby, don’t turn off to Stenigot, keep going a little while and you’re there.
Untechnically Yours
Rod

Rod,
Those were the days, I can still remember those dusty dirt tracks on our bikes…bring back the seventies!
Nice one.

Rod,
What an adorable child you were. I especially appreciate the big smile and the jaunty stance. You know, a parent likes to know what things we did that created a lasting impression on our children. I am sure your parental units appreciate this post. I imagine that your next visit home will feature beans and sausages cooked, perhaps, on a stove in the backyard.
I have come to consider you my time machine, whisking me off through space and time to another locale. H.G. Wells should have known you!!!

Hi Rod,
Terrific photos, new and old. The first reminds one of those big Lincolnshire skies which resonate with me as an Australian. I suppose it is the presence of the far horizons which creates that impression. I know it was particularly striking in the ‘bomber country’ of the south.
Cheers,
Donald.

Annie,
I’ll not be making a parental visiton the strength of sausages and beans - I want something far more upmarket
Cheers

LB,
I just looked at the pic and nothing’s changed. I was wearing jeans and a polo shirt when I visited this year, I was still grinning from ear-to-ear, I’ve still got the same amount of hair and teeth and the level of maturity is the same as well
Best

Donald,
there are, as you say, some great visitas in Lincs, I been making a big effort in trying to capture them on camera as well. So much of the impact is lost when the picture is reduced to the size above, hence the efforts in equipment etc to try and truly capture the scene for the site.
Cheers
