Absolutely - I couldn’t agree more.
As to that Brown speech - it was toe curling - reached its height when he said God Bless America
That’s true hypocrisy there - something he never would have said in a million years - unless it was scripted of course.

He was accused of toadying up to the Americans and indeed he was but looking at it on a higher more philosophical level (something he would be incapable of) you could argue he actually patronized and insulted his American audience. . .

“I’ll just say land of the free and god bless America all that old guff and they’ll swallow it they love that kind of stuff”

thanks for sharing that with us - it does make it real.
Those that sit at home grumbling or using these conflicts as political debating points need to read things such as you’ve written.
It’s no use listening to a newsreader who has been given 1.85 minutes to get it over - that’s the problem - it washes over too many people.

I think we have the finest armed forces in the world, that’s not simply patriotic either I believe all round we do, sadly those fine men and women are at the behest of the self-serving, sound bite seeking hypocrites in parliament.

Well said. Gordon Brown’s speech to Congress made me vomit. I’m all for our relationship with America but keep it in perspective. Gerry Adams et al only became semi obsolete in America after 9/11 and not before. Yes we all have to move on in order to secure peace eventually but don’t preach one message to suit one cause and not another. They can all talk about the British Army ‘occupying’ Northern Ireland but I remember seeing school children running and crying to their school with their parents through a line of crazed thugs shouting, spitting and swearing at them simply because of the street they lived in and the school they attended. They were children of five and six years of age and nobody can tell me that was justified. I shall never forget the look on their faces.
The sponsorship of the Republican movement by the Americans was something I shall never forget and something all too easily brushed under the carpet by the British government to avoid embarrassment all round.
The American people should be shown the news footage of town centres across the UK mainland ripped apart by the IRA and the deaths of young children out shopping with their parents for school uniforms on the last Saturday before the new school term.
Don’t get me wrong, the English army have done many terrible things in the name of war but like you say, tell it like it is.

I was fortunate in the sense i knew exactly what was going on as soon as i was sent to RAF GredenHill for training, its a very strange camp that is geared to specific Theaters of military operations from day one we knew that we was going to be among the first into Iraq however it was not until the day we arrived into Kuwait was we told our exact objectives, capture and hold Bagdad Airbase until relieved by Alied command, 2 wks we were sat out there, in the dust until finally the Americans Turned up all guns blazing not to mention the Buzzards overhead (A10-A Tank busters) trying to mow us down, fortunatly there was no casualties on this day well not in my unit anyway. but the fact still stands that most of these kids altough in the forces to do a job dont actually think they will be posted to the front lines this is especialy true in the RAF and the Navy, when there is now more and more young kids from all branches of the armed forces being put in the line of direct fire when they think they are in a safe position, the problem here is that most of these kids only get 48 hrs notice to deploy and two days is not enough to train somone for a specific theater of battle and our boys are dieing as a direct result of lack of training its a very sad state of affairs and all this is down to mineral wealth, in my view.

i say run cars on water then we would not have to fight these wars in far off lands, However that Roger bin Liner chap over in Afganiraqiranistan still needs sorting out…

thanks for that, I’m realistic and not against everything these people do - what gets me is the hypocrisy and lies.
Just tell us the truth - if, for example, you’re going to war because of oil then say so - the public deserve the truth and those soldiers you send out there certainly do - if they can send them out there to lose their lives the very least they can do is look them in the eye and truthfully tell them why !

I’m ranting again - must be something in the water !
