Omega Olympics Watch Review Planet Ocean
Having been the first ever manufacturer to be awarded the job of official timekeeper for the Olympic Games way back in 1932 Omega has brought out a new collection to commemorate the fact.
The Beijing Olympics is also another tie in for the company as the Swiss company also has a long-standing relationship with China. Stretching back to 1895 when China started to build the largest railway network in the world. When complete it extended to some 76,000 km of track through almost unsurpassable terrain and was truly an engineering and logistical miracle.
The engineers involved were issued with Omega Railmaster Timepieces which were all set to one single clock.
I imagine the promotion of the games and this great historical fact may have been problematic in conception given the controversy surrounding the government of China and the games in general. I am aware some sponsors have pulled out to avoid controversy and boycotts. I suspect it will all lead to nothing though and the potential for luxury wristwatch sales in the massive and ever growing Chinese market will ultimately prove to be the deciding factor.

Omega Olympic Planet Ocean Watch
The above is our personal favourite in the whole range. I’m not sure the Olympic logo on the chronograph hand (used to balance it as well) means it is quite right for somebody who is looking for a single watch to wear all the time. Undoubtedly it will become a collectors item and presumably this is the market they are aiming at.
Specification:
Helium Escape Valve
Water Resistant to 600m
This model has a rubber strap though metal bracelets are available on other models
If you want to buy one then the cheapest available will probably be online. That said it is a tightly controlled market so you may not save as much as you might imagine.
Check the prices on the internet but also go to your nearest official outlet - by far the safest way
Overall verdict:
A superb wristwatch for a gentleman and one sure to appreciate in value
