Old Maps of Grimsby Great Coates and Lincolnshire Wanted
We are urgently seeking old maps which cover the area around Wybers Wood, Little Coates, Great Coates and Aylesby.
If you have any or know of any please do drop us a line.
They need not be original and can be contained within books. We are specifically seeking to create a timeline of the area now occupied by the houses on Wybers Wood.
We would also be very interested to hear form anybody who has any evidence, anecdotal or otherwise, of what went on in and around this land.
Also old photographs of the land before building took place.
Does anybody have any historical references to a Monastery, Church or Priory etc that stood on the land now occupied by the Grimsby Golf Course ?
We are especially keen to hear about any archaeological works in this area.
If you do know anything, no matter how trivial it may seem please do leave a comment or you can email us at

Also if anyone has any references to the following:
Wyburghs Farm, Wyvers, Wiberfurlong, Wyver Hedge, Wiber Close, Furzy Wibers, House Wibers we should again be indebted for any help or knowledge you may have.
Thanks in advance
Rod

Rod, I think you must have gold on the brain, shouldn’t that read “GOLF COURSE” ?
If word gets round that there’s a seam of gold under Grimsby there will be a panic digging up all the gardens, prospectors will be heading for Wybers Woods from all over the world clutching spades and pans, you could start a new chapter in the history of Lincolnshire: The Grimsby Gold Rush of 2008!
