Old Jaguar Car Adverts ~ The Jaguar MKII
It was whilst looking through some old vintage magazines that came into my possession that I came across a fabulous car advert - it was for the famous Jaguar Mark Two saloon (yes, the one of Inspector Morse and Sweeney fame) and it brought back memories
I nearly bought something pretty much the same as this

From 1961 - The jaguar Mark II 3.4 Saloon
It’s pretty hard not to fall in love with such a thing looking at the advert, Grace, Space and Pace as Jaguar used to say.
I simply love the style of the advert though - so evocative - much like the earlier Art Deco Advertising
The added resonance here is that I nearly bought one of these, well that is to say had one restored before I hear any cracks about my age.
It was a local car and one owner from day one, required full restoration which was going to be done by the specialist Jaguar restorers Robinson’s who had acquired the car.
We were in advanced negotiations but they fell through on a sticking point - I was concerned about when the car would legally become mine. They said on completion but my problem was that I could already have given them £10,000+ (you had to pay the cost of restoration as it proceeded) and should they go bust I would lose everything.
Anyhoo, perhaps it was for the best, well saying that . . . British Racing Green with chrome wire wheels !
One thing that really appealed was the elderly man who was going to carry out the restoration had served his apprenticeship with Jaguar.
His signature was on the pre-delivery report that was still with the cars documentation - he backed it off the lorry and checked it when it was delivered to the Jaguar main dealer in Grimsby as a brand new car - and now all those years later was to lovingly restore it.
Should I have bought it ? Who knows . . .
Beautiful thing though

Rod,
I love this style of advert, what is interesting is that there is a real market out there now for framed posters of these. I can’t see today’s lot having the same kind of appeal in the future.
