Hi Mary,
thanks for the great comments and welcome to the site - hope you'll return to comment, great to hear your story as well - already quite a journey.

a lot of people here have the idea that nothing they do is their fault
That's a great point Mary and one I wholly agree with. Here in the UK personal responsibility is a thing of the past !
There has to be an excuse for everything or somebody else to blame.

As to size, there's a ton of hypocrisy here in the UK. Our papers love to say celebrities are too thin and bad role models and as soon as they put some weight on they are labelled as too fat for their bikinis !
All of this being written by overweight journalists no doubt :)

Your blog posts are interesting–some of them were extremely blunt and surprised me quite a bit, but I slogged past them and have been reading the good ones

Thanks for that Mary, appreciate it. The content is varied as I have such a varied number of readers. It's also worth mentioning that much is tongue in cheek and that a lot of the posts are not always what I personally would most like to write about.

As to being blunt - I do like to say it like it is - keeps it real - well realish :)
All the best from England

Hi! Personally, I think Nicole Richie is one of those twiggy gals. In that photo, she is looking surprisingly healthy, but I'm used to seeing her like this: http://preview.tinyurl.com/3d9wjg
I agree with the "what's good for the goose" comment. For one thing, I get so sick of hearing men complain about how "I would never date a fat chick"--and they generally say this while shoveling down their 5th cheeseburger.
Speaking as an American (female, 20) who dropped 40-60 lbs back in my mid teens and have managed to keep it off since then, I am of the opinion that what is making Americans fat is the constant barrage of fast food (which is really a "DUH" moment, isn't it?) and a certain amount of apathy about their health. Essentially, a lot of people here have the idea that nothing they do is their fault, and if they are fat, it's because someone else is to blame. Instead of saying, "I lack self-control", they say, "I have a food addiction!" because then it's an "addiction", which implies that they are powerless and therefore a victim. Admitting the lack of self-control would be finding fault with themselves, and you know how badly that goes over with people who like to blame others.
I grew up with a very sweet boy who unfortunately has a family who considers being overweight to be "normal-sized." Even at my heaviest, he thought I was anorexic, bless his heart. Come to think of it, I was raised Mormon (left a year ago), and part of that religious culture is food. There's not a lot of slim Mormons that I have noticed. So I think in his case, it was/is a combination of not being around many people who exercise and eat healthy foods. He's currently in Argentina, and I imagine that being away from all that for a while will most likely result in weight loss. Since he fancies me, I think I will try to use that influence to offer to cook for him (he knows I am a fabulous cook) and fix him a few healthy meals--it would certainly help me worry less about his health!
Plus, if I get a hiking buddy out of it... :D

I liked the one about dress sizes, although the size 0s that I have seen don't actually look healthy, so mildly I disagree with you there.
The "How To Look More Elegant" one was also pretty good.

WoE,
you make a valid point, however you know I am nothing if not shallow and am concerned more with outer appearance than inner well being.

I find myself unconcerned about anything that does not badly affect my outward appearance.
As to watching the figure and eating etc. I give you the Goldeneye shopping basket - having just returned from shopping (again) and the the supermarket.

6 bottles of claret
6 free range eggs
1 chilled chicken madras
That is the lot !

I also spent a tenner on some more batteries for the digital camera, as instructed by Jordan. Watch out for more pics, maybe new foto feature as well
Cheers
