Mosquitos in Lincolnshire UK

Mosquitoes are alive and kicking biting in the United Kingdom !
Have I missed something or am I just dumb ?

Regular readers, and those that know me, will be aware I no longer advocate leaving Lincolnshire !
I have travelled before but since coming to my senses I know realise that food, water and general hygiene leaves a lot to be desired elsewhere.

Experience has also taught me the likelihood of getting into trouble and having problems is inversely proportional the the distance I travel from my house :)
I am also used to the tang of sea air and the sound of seagulls - when travel is unavoidable I take MP3 files of seagulls with me and some sea water in a smelling salts bottle - it’s not the same but it helps.

I also have to take care as I could be liable to nose bleeds and giddiness should I get much higher than 20 feet above sea level :)

Anyways, this ramble takes me, eventually, to bloody mosquitoes !
The news wires are reporting records numbers of people are being bitten, folks are going to doctors and hospitals with mozzy bites !
So what I hear you cry - serves them right for leaving England !
That’s the rub you see - they’re here in Blighty

    Is this new ?
Have they always been here ?
Is it safe for me to leave the house ?
    Do I need a Malaria jab ?

To think I avoid foreign travel expressly to dodge things like filthy foreign kitchens, poisonous water and these flying disease spreading critters.

The world’s coming to an end - were all doomed and the sky is falling in !

As to travel in general I leave the final word to the incomparable PG Wodehouse

Foreign travel often liberates emotions best kept in check

I was talking to someone during the week, who last weekend while at a barbecue is sure he was bitten about twenty times by Mosquito - Mosquitoes.
Though he did say, that they would be easily spotted by others as they will be Flying Low and Very Drunk !.

    ARB,
you’ve confirmed my worst fears - mosquitoes are abroad in the United Kingdom.
It also looks like when attending a barbecue, if the sausages don’t get you then the mossies will !
It’s all very disturbing - I’m off to buy some Jungle Formula !

There have always been mosquitos in the UK, but they have been limited to none fatal disease carrying afaik.

However the nastier varieties have been found here, recently, including the dreaded female anopheles, which carries malaria.

    Craig,
thanks, as ever the font of all wisdom !
I suspect I shall be bitten by dreaded female anopheles, the good news is that my constitution is such that I shall merely laugh it off :)

they say eating marmite wards off mosquitoes, so this will have to be a new addition to your diet Rod in the jungle conditions of Wybers Wood, bon appetite! :)

    Dino,
    how fortuitous !
I actually do have some Marmite, rather than eating though I shall smear it all over the exposed parts of my body for extra protection.
Safety first in the tropical jungles of Wybers Wood !
