Miss Grimsby Telegraph 2009
Miss Grimsby Telegraph 2009 - All the Finalists !
It’s that time of year again and we are featuring all the contestants who got through to the finals of the competition to see who will represent the area and bid for the title Miss England
There is, as usual, some confusion though, anyway, pictures of all the girls and information on how to vote
Please Note: Due to the confusion of running two simultaneous competitions this is a split post.
The pictures below are for those entering to win Miss Grimsby and go on to represent the town in the Miss England Competition
Please scroll down to the comments to see the final list of 120 entrants in the Evening Telegraph Competition - thank you
PS: don’t blame me for the confusion !
I’ve gotten slightly confused this year as to dates and exactly what’s happening. The paper still says the competition has another few days for entries yet the Miss England site already has voting under way to narrow the top twenty girls down to 10 by public vote.
I’ll be happy to make any changes should it be necessary if I’ve got anything wrong.
Firstly though, it’s great to see the local paper getting behind the event this year - well played !
To the Contestants
Feel free to leave a comment if you’re in the competition to drum up support - you can, should you wish, include a link to your Facebook, MySpace or website etc.
Friends, family and supporters are also most welcome to leave comments in support.
Naturally, we remain impartial and wish everybody equal good luck - that said, it’s great to see Jade Clay in the line up !
All pictures are © Grimsby Telegraph and Miss England. Used in the spirit of promoting the girls and the event.

We have covered this event in previous years here’s 2007 and last year’s 2008 Well done to last year’s winner Sian Gissing and thanks for representing the town.

We have already dipped a toe in this year’s competition and been mentioned in the local paper, well alluded to anyway.
Whilst talking to the lovely Laura Hall in town she was approached by the paper’s photographer and asked to have her picture taken.
I admit to pushing her into it and she was featured in the paper on 20 April along with the line:
“Laura Hall, a Barclays Bank cashier, was persuaded to fill in her application when a customer told her to have a go”
A natural modesty forbade her from entering the competition in full.

If you want to know how to vote then all the information is at the bottom of the article in the first comment

There are some good prizes for the winning lady including use of a new car for a year and all sorts of other goodies

I am presuming that the winner also goes forward to represent the town in the Miss England Competition

And finally - last but definitely not least

So that is the entire line up - please feel free to leave messages of support and any comments
We shall be updating this page as and when developments occur so please do check back.

Hi Amy,
thanks for commenting and it’s a pleasure to feature you on the site - well done for getting through and best of luck.
Thanks also for taking the time to clear things up a little as checking out the ME site and the paper is pretty confusing and suggest the contest is one and the same thing.
Do I take it that they are both completely separate and that we could/will have two winners - a Miss Grimsby and a Miss GY Telegraph ?
Best of luck

Here’s the latest voting and who’s winning in the Miss England vote
Emily Rose Skelton
Sophie Jowett
Lucie Firth
Jade Clay
Emily Corfield
It’s pretty close in the top 5 so get voting and if you’re in it mobilize your vote !
Still remaining non-partisan, I am not surprised to see Emily Rose leading, when I saw the pictures I thought; dead ringer for a young Denise Richards - not exactly a setback in life!
Best of luck to all and we’ll keep you updated
Regards to all

Hi Rod,
20 girls out of those who had their photos taken in freshney place by the telegraph were selected for Miss Grimsby & District, but we are all also in the running for Miss Grimsby telegraph. So we should have two winners, but you never know as the same girl may win both competitions!
And i also noticed Jade Clay is doing well, and even though its not me in the lead i want to say i am really pleased for her as i know she has entered it before and is obviously working really hard to get where she wants to be!
Ames xx

Hi Amy,
thanks for that, much appreciated. I think what I’ll do is leave this page as it is then do separate pages for the winners of both competitions etc.
Very magnanimous of you re JC - I’m sure she’d appreciate it.
I’ve seen from past events that all the contestants are very sporting - nice to see.
Best of luck Ames and thanks again for taking the time to clear the position up
Best

hey…. yes it is that time of year again
, and once again a huge thank you to your covering of this event.
i am glad to see that the telegraph are helping to promote miss grimsby more this year…. even though it have confused a few people with it being two total different competitions.
this year is a little bit different aswell because u can raise money for the miss england charity beat, which is for eating disorders. ive decided i wanted to raise money because it will obviously help those who do suffer from an eating disorders and it isnt a well known chairty , i my self had not heard of it untill now. im sky diving on the twenty third of may which i am so excited about….. friends and family are shocked at how extreme the event is that im doing, they couldnt believe it when i said i wanted to do it but i will gain a great experience for a good cause……so any donations for my sky dive would be greatly appreciated….al though i do need the money for the 26th of may
i would like to say a big thank you for a lovely comment that amy portess has left …… it has brought a smile to my face..thank you for your support and i sure am working hard he he……. i would like to say good luck to all the twenty girls and to say enjoy the experience and have fun with it
once again thank you rod for the coverage and comment

and GOOD LUCK girlies …..and if i gain a place in the final ten im looking forwards to meeting u all

Update: Miss Grimsby Telegraph.
Shortly I hope to clear up the confusion between the contestants and the two contests.
I received a tip-off last night that a very local girl is in the local paper’s version of the competition. Upon receiving the paper I see they are now starting their voting.
It did say see their website for pictures of all those who have got through but there’s nothing there at the time of writing
As to the Miss England version of Miss GY: Sophie Jowett and Jade Clay now seem well ahead and are trading 1st and 2nd place with barely any votes in it !
More on this ASAP
Best

Hi Liza
thanks for the commment and welcome to the site - there was some confusion initially in the way the two things both intertwined and indeed became separate.
I shall be publishing the list etc of the Miss ET just as soon as the info is available.
Check back and hopefully there will be some more information etc
All the best

All the Girls in the Actual Miss Grimsby Telegraph Competition
I’ve finally found some info on the Evening Telegraph site. Sadly it was in the form of scanned in newspages so they were difficult to read and I had to hand type out all of the following 120 names
of those included in the vote.
If there are any spelling mistakes then please let me know I’ll correct them.
If any of the girls want to send in a picture then they can do so, contact details top right of every page.
We encourage any of the contestants or their supporters to leave a comment
Very best of luck
