Mill Hill ~ One of Grimsby’s Ancient Historic Mounds

Mill Hill is one of a group of three mounds which once made up Nun’s Hills in Grimsby.
They were of great historic importance to the town so are more than worthy of investigation and an accumulation of as much information as possible

Mill Hill stood in the area of Nuns Corner in Grimsby, near the college and war memorial.

You’ll see three mounds on the map marked A, B and C. Part of our investigation will be to try and finalise with as much certainty as possible the exact location of Mill Hill - is it A, B or C ?
For information on the others please see our separate articles on Spittal Hill and Chapel Hill - we’d like to keep all relevant information sectioned to the specific hill and article - thank you.

The three mounds once formed an equilateral triangle which is a great importance to druids. It seems that the primary purpose of the mounds was for druidic purposes - something we’re keen to explore so if you can help please do.

The onset of Christianity brought about new uses for these important sites and Mill Hill, unsurprisingly, was the site for a mill given over to the use of the church according to a statute of St. Benedict. So say Monumental Antiquities of Great Grimsby.

I am very keen to learn as much as possible about this and the possibility of a a dispute of ownership of a windmill on the site.
This is merely a theory but any information would be gratefully received.

We’d now like to open this up for debate as to exact location and any and all information and theories as to the past history of the site.
Many thanks in advance for any input

All the best
Rod
