Make the Pictures on My Blog Better

How to improve the picture quality of the photographs on my website
This is something of a running plot and something I’ve alluded to before. I am keen to do all I can to present the best possible images on this site - not just for those kind enough to visit but also for my own satisfaction.
Having bought ‘a load of camera gear’ and improved things quite a bit I still want more and hope the next stage will go some way to achieving that
Here is an example - let me know what you think - or even if you care

This image was taken on my last photographic trip and really summed up what was an old boat yard, seemingly untouched by the last few decades - a taste of what was once all around the coast here.
The guy in the boat was no doubt doing now what he’s been doing for half a century at least - it conveyed the scene as I saw it in my mind - an image frozen in time.
Also one of changing times and changing generations - the seat in that boat will probably never be refilled.

The day was drab and colourless making for difficult shots. Add to that when making the pictures smaller to be of reasonable size for the site so much is lost - here is what you would have originally seen last week.

Now below see the new version of the same shot. What I’ve tried to do is extract all the information and detail the camera captured and retain it when resized - I think the results speak for themselves.

The New Improved Version

The pictures were always pretty good on the site but now I am hoping I can usher in vastly superior images and that it will help enhance the experience of those visiting the site.
I’m looking not to provide ‘decent pictures’ but, dare I say it, pictures of professional standard.
Rest assured it’s not going to be a ‘photographic blog’ all pictures will appear to enhance and illustrate any article or try and get across what I saw or felt at a certain place or time.
I don’t want to sound too arty but I’m putting a lot of time, effort and resources into this as I really do want the site to stand out.

Here is the Saxon Doorway which I featured a few days ago - that time in B&W. Here is the full Monty as of yesterdya in all its glory

Old Church Doorway

Ancient Saxon Door

I should point out that I have a lot of posts backed up in drafts with the pictures done so a lot of the church type posts will still contain the ‘old pictures’ when they don’t hopefully you’ll notice the difference

I’m not sure how much our regular viewers really care about this, indeed few probably think about it but I’d like to think that the subconscious takes it in and that you feel it worthwhile ?

A Picture speaks a million words,
By far my favorites are Black and White, espeacaly trees, but rod have you tryed fillters to get an atmosphere on your photos?

Here is one i do quite alot, if you do a screen capture on google earth, then invert it it often highlights areas which you would not normally notice ie walls in cropmarks apear white but when inverted they are black and easyer to see..

    just a thought

    Rod,
The quality difference in these pictures is truly amazing. I have a widescreen, HD monitor for my computer, and your visuals are stunning.

Thank you for all your efforts. Please know that they are seen and appreciated.

    Chris,
I too like B&W for certain shots but they sometimes lose too much when sized down for the site.
One of my next purchases for the camera will be set of filters for landscapes and the like.

Using digital filters to bring out crop marks is a great idea Chris
    Cheers

    Hi Annie,
thanks for that, really appreciated - especially as you mention the HD monitor - this monitor is good but not high def’ stunning - it makes a real difference when viewing good quality pictures as I’ve seen my brother’s.

Thank you for all your efforts. Please know that they are seen and appreciated.

    FF,
many thanks - pleased you like them.
    Wallet . . . what wallet ?
I’ve had to throw it away, it’s been opened so many times it’s split at the spine - besides there’s no longer anything left to put in it.

If the expense of this continues I’ll have to dig up another tin :)

I think somebody beat me to that field :(
What a great find though, very interesting - many thanks for the tip off - I’d love to find something historic in the ground
