Lunch in Horncastle
Yesterday saw Goldeneye socializing with friends in the market town of Horncastle.
This is always a very civilized event and this Tuesday was no exception.
For those of you out there unaccustomed to the finer things in life, you may wish to backclick at this point.
I started with a superb mint julep, as one does, a finely prepared drink from a obvious connoisseur, special mention must go out here to the fresh mint, very highly rated.
This was followed by a superb lunch, all home prepared using only the finest ingredients.
This is, of course, normal in the Goldeneye lifestyle, though for some of our less cosmopolitan readers I have included a photograph less they doubt this lavish bean feast

Thanks to Craig for the photo - all 400kb of it!
You’ll notice the mint julep next to the dish and also lest anyone think this picture was lifted from a 5 star gastro website, the business card for this site is included.
How the other half live I hear you cry!
Good for Books Horncastle
Yes indeedy, it’s alright on this side of the fence and should this depress those less privileged please don’t be jealous, just look at it as something to aspire to

Bah 400kb is nothing - it’s an 8MP camera (and I catually thought you might want to trim/edit it).
OFC emailing the picture in it’s raw state may be a symptom of hidden envy, that you get prawns etc and I have to make do with the occasional dried Rich Tea biscuit.
But then my taste is less rarefied than yours (the only time I ever heard of the Henri lloyd Transglobe Boot was here).
Ahh well envy is not a pleasant trait, so I will try to stamp on it!!!

PS DAMN TYPOS!!!!!
PPS Have only just noticed that the pastry is even fish shaped - I’m lucky if the biscuit is even whole

Craig
you are not the first to comment on the difference in commestables, Horncastle’s most senior bookseller often comments on the difference between his biscuit and my banquet!
I know the picture size as I was cursing you this morning for jamming my mailserver. I owe you an apology as it seems there is a technical issue and I still cannot download to outlook. Having to access server side.
Oh well !

Rod, we the modern day geisha of Horncastle, are delighted that you have agreed to sample our humble offerings with such glee. I have received dozens of applications wishing to join the Horncastle Philosophy group (which I have passed on to the Managing Director), mostly women, in fact all women ….. sadly for them the pressures of high powered executive/creative/project managing careers plus looking after men (a huge drain on female resources!), mean there is so little time left for the finer things in life. Kind regards, Lyn
p.s. I myself am suffering since Roger Federer moved into the attic, there’s just no peace …. wish I’d never had that tennis court built in the spare room.

Lyn,
whilst I am not against expansion of the Horncastle Philosophy Group, I do have reservations.
Such is the standning of the current members I am unsure as to how many other people would feel themselves able to measure up to the already very high standards!
As to those unable to attend, it is a great sadness but unfortunately such is the lot of the working class.
Let me point out that, in the Goldeneye world, you can be working class regardless of income, social standing, birth, achievements or honours.
It simply means you work for a living, I feel sorry for those that do, but somebody has to I suppose.
As to the tennis, why not convert to Lacrosse, if you are unsure about losing the indoor tennis court why not build in the east wing?
Must dash as I am racing my camel in the Great Coates Handicap tonight - wish me luck!

Rod, you are right of course, we need to keep the ‘fast thinkers’ out and welcome the ‘free food’ …….. sorry, Julep by the pint is not a good idea if, like me you are usually tea total, I mean fast food lovers and three finkers, no no, free thinkerssssssssssssssssss……..
p.s. I do hope you are sporting your Lawrence of Arabia look, in the fashion stakes I’m sure you’ll win. Lyn

To truly be a free thinker must be the ultimate goal. I suppose many theortically are but to be a ‘pure’ free thinker must take an incredible mind.
To consider something purely and allow no influence from experience or other knnowledge - very difficult
The fashion stakes are in something of a hiatus due to lack of supplies.
I was going to buy a casual summer emsemble but had to abandon it due to the size of the rear pockets in the trousers - not big enough to even take a wallet !

Rod, I urge a trip to the mens Cahoots uphill Lincoln. At least I would be interested to hear what you think of the clothes he sells … might be on the trendy side for you, but still give it a go. While you’re at it, there’s lots of other attractions uphill and on a sunny day you may find yourself diverted. As to the size of the Collins wallet …. well, now there’s a challenge for any trouser! Perhaps we should be on the look out for a matching clutch bag for you.
Can’t be chatting for too long as have been invited to a local property magnet’s for supper and want to make a calorie free, fatless sponge.
Can’t make my mind up whether to go for the bohemian look or the usual shabby chic, considering the company I keep, I will have to make more of an effort. Lyn

Lyn,
I have been sadly absent from Lincoln for some time now, something I need to remedy. When I do I shall be sure to to cast an eye over this vendors stock.
I hope the local tycoon made it clear which property he was entertaining in?
You could spend hours going from one to the other before finding them.
I would recommend a touch of boho chic, it is, theoretically, somewhat in fashionable decline but it can still be carried off if done well.
Style, as we know, never goes out of fashion
Send my regards to S,R & M
