It is no longer used as a font cover - it was virtually impossible to baptised babes with it ..... there is a hatch giving access to the font, and somehow the babe's head had to be fed between the uprights of the cover. The easy option was used - a wrought iron stand with a cut glass bowl on the chancel steps!!
