He will meet Jeremy Clarkson then be A Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.
Amusingly, this will mean that the official second best driver in the world will do some practice laps under the instruction of the shows tame racing driver The Stig.
Lewis Hamilton v The Stig
The Two drivers square up as the Mclaren Mercedes ace tries to beat the
mystery former racing driver’s benchmark time lap time of 1.44
Update Results - How fast was his lap
The lap he drove was stunning !
It was a wet track and there was also some oil on it
His lap time was 1.44.7
Although technically not as fast as The Stig and Nigel Mansell, in reality it was the fastest lap in Top Gear history. A wet track is meant to cost between 2 to 3 seconds and both other drivers were in the dry.
As a comparison, Mark Webber drove in the wet and posted a time of 1.47Lewis Hamilton mentioned coming back in the dry to do it again after both Clarkson and The Stig wanted to know just how on earth he drove that lap !
His time will not be compared to the celebrities but go on the special F1 board amongst the likes of Nigel Mansell and Jenson Button.
How will he do ? The producers are giving nothing away other than “it was fast”
He’s obviously a good sport as I suspect other Grand Prix drivers have avoided the invitation lest they fail to beat fellow drivers. It’s a true test, all in the same car, nothing to hide behind.
If you want to tune in the TV programme, also featuring Richard Hammond aka The Hamster and James May aka Captain Slow it starts at 8pm Sunday 2.12.07.
It’s a real coup for Top Gear but worth remembering that it is actually one of the most popular TV programmes in the world !
Incredible but true, I believe their worldwide viewing figures extend to about half a billion !
This episode should stick a few more on
