Jordan,
Re 'the thought of anyone making money off the back of them' -The ticket demmand was so huge they had to issue them on 'pulled out of the hat' basis to make it fair. What Goldsmith is saying is that E Bayers are making money on the back of their good luck for what is a charitable event meaning genuine Zeppelin fans are missing out to e bay sharks wanting to make a fast buck with no desire to donate the proceeds to the chosen charity, let alone be bothered about seeing this one off concert. What you say about the Spice Girls and the like is probably true, Victoria Beckham doesn't need to rely on record sales or air plays like the others. The point I make is that Led Zeppelin were the biggest band on the planet for a decade and continue to sell records and attract new fans (unlike the Spice Girls, etc) Robert Plant and Jimmy Page are considered to be worth in excess of £100 million each. They don't need to do it.

Rod,
The Led Zeppelin concert is a one off in aid of a charity set up by the late founder of Atlantic records. In fairness to the band they could have made millions from a world tour but they have declined to do so. Robert Plant seems happy to make records and play far smaller venues under his own name. I know he's a millionaire anyway but he could 'cream it' far more than he does.
Pete Townsend is also donating his services to the concert.

Jordan
this is something that coinfused me as well ...
When I heard "long awaited reunion" - "multi million £ deal to temp them back together" etc etc I thought who want sthem back together ?
They were always a figure of fun, they were certainly never thought of as a 'live' group so what's a tour all about ...

As you say, there is a ton of talent out there, working McJobs and struggling to pay the rent !

I'd pay quite a bit not to be subjected to watching them !
Much of this is a marketing and social thing I think.
"I've got Led Zep tickets"
"I'm going to see the Rolling Stones" etc

Ticket agencies and touts ensure immediate sell-outs giving the impression of massive interest etc
It's all a load of b******s

I'd be happy enough with Paul Gilbert at the Grimsby Auditorium myself !
Best

They really should!

Have you seen how much the Spice Girl tickets are selling for? Outrageous! To pay all that and watch 5 women ‘lip-sync’ and wiggle their small tush. I can do that, although my tush is slightly more ‘womanly’.
Am I the only person who thinks that they weren’t ‘all that’ the first time round? So now most of them have been sliced open to get kids out (too posh to push) and have married, or s****ed someone famous to get publicity, have they grown at last some talent as well as getting fake appendages?

Get off the stage girls! There are a lot of unemployed geniuses out there, who write their own songs, sing live and don’t have to show their bodies off to do it.

TMH
I agree things are best left as they were. There is also the danger that when peole see them again they'll realise they're not as good as perhaps they thought they were.
Led Zep never really did it for me. Some classics obviously but over indulgent and Jimmy Page highly over rated as a guitar player

Hi

Greed, greed, greed. Thats all it is, they can't stand the thought of anyone else making money off the back of them, even if they are multi millionaires.

TMH,
Quite right about life after 'Physical Graffiti', some of 'Prescence' and 'In through the Outdoor' is poor to say the least but 'Tea for One' is sublime. I hope they do it properly this time because Live Aid was toe curlingly bad. They should take a look at what Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio are doing at the moment-now that's a band.

I prefer to remember them as they were back in the day. It was all downhill after Physical Graffiti.

(And I've still not forgiven my older sister for refusing to take me to their Oxford New Theatre gig in 1972.)
