Kitchen Garden Diary 2009

We’re under starter’s orders here at La Casa Goldeneye and, to mix metaphors nicely, the bell has rung signalling round three
Kitchen Garden 2009
Don’t read on if medically advised to avoid too much excitement !

Soil is being tilled and, as it’s Saturday, I had my dibber in my hand and was spreading my seed, brings back memories of Saturdays of yore !
That is to say when I last used that joke in a KG post !

Regulars will be aware of the excitement generated by the news that I was viewing an area of the front garden for expansion of the KG - well, procrastination is the thief of time and I’m a man of action - it’s done !

Shallots - Onions - Leeks
A new area was very carefully dug over and painstakingly prepared then rows of the above planted.
Stage one of the expansion - now back to the original KG

Broad Beans
Haven’t grown these before so green-fingers crossed. these too are in a newly prepared area behind the raised beds (both of which are now ready for planting)

Aubergines
Another new addition to the repertoire - 2 rows sown in

3 Pots of Herbs
I’m going to have a full herb garden though I intend to confine them all to pots. Reasons are twofold, to contain them and conserve valuable planting room as well as utilizing areas unsuited the veg growing

It’s already all looking great and giving a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction. had a great day today, up at 6.30am exercising, went out for a walk and back in time for the F1 qualifying at 9am.
Followed by a couple of hours in the Kitchen Garden and then a trip to the seaside for a really long walk in the glorious sunshine.
A thoroughly satisfying and full day - being rounded off tonight with a glass of water
I hope whoever is reading this is enjoying life as well, who ever you are, wherever you are and whatever you do !
Best Wishes to All
Happy Rod

    Rod,
Watch those aubergines mate, they hate the cold. I grew some black beauties in one of the polytunnels last year and they needed a long growing season with plenty of warmth.

LB (thinking you’ll now grow some monsters after I’ve written this!)

    LB,
thanks for that, strangely I kind of thought they would be delicate and tricky. Anything that looks slightly more exotic than basic root vegetables seems prone to problems.
    I hope they grow - at £2.50 for 6 tiny seeds they’d better :)

    Cheers
    Rod
