Is Victoria Beckham a Style Icon ?
Will history remember Posh Spice as a style icon ?
Victoria Beckham was busy winning awards last night such as woman of the year and entrepreneur of the year. Opinion seems fairly divided with people who actually admire her and others who think her a talentless waste of space.
Whatever anyone’s opinion, her actions and appearance guarantee column inches in all the papers and magazines. This is probably the best indicator of popularity in today’s world. Editors will only print what sells and clearly people want to read about her.

I think she probably is, that said she looks great in the picture above. Credit where credit is due !
It is a separate debate but accusations that woman of this size put pressure on young girls to be unhealthily skinny is a charge often levelled against her.
I think this unfair. It could reasonably be said that her influence may help young girls watch their weight, without aiming for size zero, thereby making them fitter and healthier !
Is she a cultural or style icon ?
Personally I think not !
Whilst stylistically influential I see her more as a follower of fashion and trends as opposed to a creator of them. I have no doubt she will be remembered, such is life today, but I suspect it will be more about being the ultimate “celebrity wife” rather than a giant in the world of style and fashion.
Maybe things will change, she’s only 33 after all, we shall see, no doubt we’ll be kept informed !

Thanks for this objective article. I do think that Victoria is the queen of style, she had an amazing style since she entered the celebrity world and not like other celebirities who started very sporty and suddenly they turned “classy” and also suddenly started going to fashion shows etc
Victoria was very into Gucci dresses style since 1995/1996 and she went to Versace show in october 1997 and all her pictures from the past & the present show that she’s extremely stylish. She aslo wrote an amazing book about women’s appearance , how to look great etc called “That extra half an inch” She won a lot of style awards even in the past thanks to her wonderful sense of style.
Yesterday’s awards (Woman of the year & Entrepreneur of the year) were so deserved by her and I congratulaate her, she so deserves it.

I must admit it has been interesting watching her change over the years, she certainly has got better with age and money.
One thing I do admire is the way her and David bounce back as a couple
no matter what the press or the general public throw at them.
I personally think Victoria will be like a fine wine, gets better with age.
Nice to see David back in an England shirt.
England v Estonia will be one to watch.

many thanks for the great comment. I have to say one of her biggest assets is a sense of real style as opposed to merely “fashion”
This point clearly is clearly made by your reference to older pictures, she never looks ridiculous. People who slavishly follow couture fashion can look ridiculous when looked at retrospectively, indeed look ridiculous at the time, but Victoria Beckham always looks “good”

I’ve nothing against Victoria as a person but it baffles me why she should receive an award for anything, have I missed something? If she hadn’t been married to David Beckham would we have seen her in the newspapers for years, since the Spice Girls days? Am I just a dinosaur?

In the pictures we see of her she always looks cross, never very happy …. is this because she spends so much time keeping up appearances … we all know what a drag that can be day after day. However, she wears her hot pants well and that is about the only positive thing we have to say about Victoria, perhaps we should dig deeper but we can’t be bothered.
