Is Halloween Anti Christian ~ Evil or Dangerous ?

Keeping things topical we’re on with All Hallows Eve again and a bit of fun for those who take part - or is it ?
According to the Vatican the Pope has stated today that Hallowe’en is Anti-Christian and Dangerous !
Dramatic stuff, but really is it ? And do things like this simply risk alienating people from the church ?

In an article titled The Dangerous Messages of Halloween parents are urged not to let their children get dressed up as ghosts and ghouls.
sexy witchHere’s a sample quote from on of the Catholic churches representatives

Halloween pushes new generations towards a mentality of esoteric magic and it attacks sacred and spiritual values through a devious initiation to the art and images of the occult. At best, it gives a big helping hand to consumerism and materialism

I would really question the wisdom of such utterances. Does it do anything to redress the problem of falling church attendance when they seem so out of touch with simple reality. We’ve discussed before that a lot of young people don’t believe in god and surely the church should look to new generations if it wants to continue.

Do they really think that all those children playing dress up and going round the streets on October 31st have the slightest inclination of esoteric dangers ?
Are all those men and women who’ll be getting dressed up to go to parties really worshipping the devil ?

Surely anybody can see in general it’s nothing more than an excuse for kids to have some fun and adults to have a party.
The more you make yourself out-of-touch then the less likely you are to reach anybody - especially in a modern world that has so many other distractions and calls on people’s time.

I know I’m an outsider looking in but it almost seems as though the christian churches almost want to press the self-destruct button in almost everything the hierarchy do.
They need new generations to come to the church in order to survive and telling somebody dressed as a witch that she’s risking hell and damnation doesn’t strike me as the way to do it.

I don’t say go all ‘hip and trendy’ just be realistic and talk some commonsense

Dangerous or not it seems to come round fast, seems no time at all since we covered Halloween last year and indeed 2007 when I was invited by the enchanting ♥Nickii♥ (note the hearts are part of her name !) to a costume party.
It looks like my local pub is also having a party, a day early (I’m writing this Friday night), as well as I’ve just had to nip out to the shop and bumped into a girl dressed as a rather fetching bumble bee - she looked hot, possibly a little wicked but definitely not evil !

I shall of course be celebrating All Hallow’s Eve or Samain as we Mithraists called it long before christianity came to be
I wish you all a Happy Hallowe’en and many more of them

Spookily Yours
Rod

Perhaps one could dress up as the Pope, or better yet, get 12 friends and go as J.C. and the Boys.

    Annie,
that’s not actually a bad idea - why don’t they try something to engage people on Hallowe’en - they’ve got to be pro active I believe especially in the UK.

It seems to me that as they cannot get away with killing people who dont agree with them anymore
they are having a hard time of keeping these old belief systems down.

Hail Mithraism!! Any excuse to get dressed up. (although i prefer Zoroastrianism as its a bigger word)

    Phil,
I think a lot of people would be interested in reading about ancient religions and beliefs - I find it hugely interesting.
I would recommend it also to anybody who is ‘religious’ they may be shocked at what they learn
    Cheers
