Is Deception Acceptable on TV
There appears to be ever-increasing amounts of deception on our television today.
Is it important - do we really care ?
I have to make one point here, I’m not really a TV watcher so not best placed to comment on this but … ignorance doesn’t seem to have held me back before !
There have been some well documented scandals in the UK with rigged phone in competitions etc, clearly these are wrong but it does make you wonder how much trust you can put in the people who make our television.
I just saw a story that X Factor was claiming to have contestants over a the judges houses, it turns out that they were not their houses but ones rented for the show.
Does this kind of thing matter ?
I think so - honesty and integrity are everything.
If you lose it who will believe anything they see on TV ?
There is also the documentary issue. I think most people who watch what is billed as, and format wise produced as, a documentary assume what they see to roughly be true.
A show supposedly following Victoria Beckham and her move to America saw her with a personal PA all the time. This woman was in fact an actress hired to portray the role !
I note also that Al Gore’s film on climate change, which won an Oscar for best documentary not to mention countless other awards and plaudits, ran into trouble when it was going to be shown in schools.
It seems it’s got several majors ‘errors’ in it, some of the key points have been ‘over-egged’
This amounts to indoctrination of our children - surely that is serious.
There must be countless other examples, if anyone knows of any, let us know
So does it matter or are we all that cynical now we don’t believe anything or anybody anyway … ?
