Is Bigger Really Better ?

Is Bigger Really Better ?

Once again, a topic inspired by our own Jordan, albeit somewhat tongue-in-cheek!

In today’s world bigger is generally regarded as better, something I would largely agree with I suppose, with the notable exception of women’s dress sizes and men’s waists of course :)
But is it really ? And if it is; at what cost ?

It’s pretty clear that to the average Joe, a bigger house would be preferable to the one they are in - hence the relentless obsession with property ladders etc. But is it worth crippling yourself with debt for ?
Do you really need an en suite bathroom ?

The constant pressure to “improve” your lot with material things seems relentless.
I believe much of this to be self-inflicted !
The expense of children, to cite an oft quoted example, is exacerbated by parents simply spoiling their children and in the process breeding a weak and hopeless “I Want” generation.

I have never been interested in keeping up with the Jones’s. I like material things and confess to being extravagant in some areas. That said, it’s all done with cash and no credit.
I would therefore like to think I am above social pressures and immune to advertising and an implied “lifestyle” I should strive toward portrayed in magazines.

But am I ?

Example: Why do I feel I should have a house abroad ?
Obviously the idea is nice but is it my idea or am I picking up on the fact that several of my friends now have more than one house?
Would I be considering the idea if nobody I knew had a house abroad ?

Should we be happy with what we have when we have sufficient ?
Should we relentlessly strive to have the biggest and best ?

Whatever the answer, one thing is sure, we’ll leave this world with exactly what we came in with!

    Rod,
Yes you should have an ensuite bathroom because its smaller than the main one and takes less time cleaning, my downstairs toilet is good for nothing save a suitable place for a photo of you and Father. As for keeping up with Mr & Mrs Jones, I don’t bother-they’re nearly all maxed out on credit cards (how many people do you know who actually own their car outright?)
I do believe in buying the best that you can afford, chaff is chaff. That is why I reccomend the Canon EOS 5D digital SLR, the professional’s choice.

(do I get a prize for the Canon SEO bit?)

    LB,
nice try winning me over. I often hear husbands and wives say that because they have 2 or 3 children a second toilet would be a big help.
Quite why a bachelor would have 3 toilets …

I also believe buying quality is the best way, also cheaper in the long run.

The Canon SEO would be better if you had written and emailed me a review of that bad boy !
    Regards

    LB,

Does the photo deter guests from using the cloakroom or once in, do they become fascinated and stay for hours? :)
